"haha your only 2wd!?"

I'm putting nitrous on my boat, does that mean I smoke crack too?

Did you guys see that video of the Firebird getting whipped by the nitrous injected scooter?? hahaha thats a classic!!!

I want to be able to pull my 300# friends out of the water on skis and I want to be able to "surprise" some of those other hot rod boaters...... :)

Oh and if you setup your 2wd right you can make them eat those words........

nitrous on an X has been done many times. had it on mine for almost a year. nitrous oxide is by far the cheapest way to get a ticket. ;)

As soon as I get my 302 in, I'm gonna add on a SC and give it a little laughing gas too. I'll be building up the whole engine, so a big fat 150 shot will do.

.....grabbing lots of rope to pull the thread back to where it was....

Seriously.... When driving on loose sand, is low range really necessary to get going from a stop, or will aired down tires and AWD be enough, if the momentum is not kept up?

What are all of your tips for driving off-road with a limited traction vehicle, such as a 2wd or an AWD with stock limited slip rear and open front?

Keeping your speed up seems to be the best bet for sand. It's better to float over it than plow through it. I'm sure that if you did it slowly enough (low range would help here) you could easily crawl through some sand. Just don't spin your wheels too much. Also, it also depends on the sand's consistency.

As I have said in the past you can always convert your 2wd X to a 4x4 and if you dont want to do it your self bring it to me and I will do it for you. Just make sure you bring money.... Visa and Mastercard accepted too.

I have done two 4x4 conversions and would never EVER take a 2wd off road. just my opinion. If you want 4x4 it is available to you...

Kris,
Tell me what week you have available in June and I'll be there with all the parts and Mastercard (or check) for the motor rebuild ;)

Maybe Summer 2004 the 4x4 convo (maybe maybe maybe) or start to buildup an early X.

Hey Alec, how big is your Credit limit? :D

A lot ;)

Seriously though, I'm willing to give you about $100 per day if it goes reasonably quick. You have to let me know what a day's worth of work is worth to you. If we can knock it out in 2 days, I can offer more. If we don't have any problems I don't forsee it taking any more. We could maybe get to those torsion bars, too, Mr. Itlookstoocrooked :p

BTW, sorry to hijack the thread.

So we are only going to work 2 hours a day right?

Depends if you're doing this on top of work, or on a day off. Of course we won't work a lot if you're also at your job. The only thing with that is I'll kinda be without a vehicle. I'll have a friend in Port Oconnor and may persuade him to shuttle me for a few days though.

The must list is basically only:
Remove headers from old heads, take off everything on the top of the motor, remove heads, pushrods, lifters; and replace everything again. The new heads are already fully built complete with valves and springs.

The hardest part will probably be dealing with the headers (though maybe not so hard if we take everything off the top first) and getting everything sealed up against vacuum leaks at the end.

Alec, I think what he means is that he works for $50 an hour. Get it? $100 a day/2 hours = $50.

:p

Also from our phone conversation, doesn't sound too enthused about the project. Randall, want to help me with a motor rebuild?

Come on Alec!

Do it yourself! I've never built (or rebuilt) an engine, but that's what I'm gonna do. It'll be fun. Go for it! :D

Main thing stopping me is I don't have all the tools like Kris and Randall do.

dude just drop gears and a locker in the back. that's what i always wanted 2 do but my 2wd died. now i got a 92 4x4 X. and i'll tell u what it's a big difference. if u got the money convert it. but it's always fun 2 out do a 4x4 if u know what ur doing. in sand tap the gas instead of having a steady flow. i live out next 2 a beach so i got some techniques that i kind of stumbled on. it'll have the vroom brrrrr vrooom affect but it'll get u through some soft sand w/out digging.

When you are in the sand...let the air pressure out to about 12 psi...it's what we run in all the Lifeguard trucks in So. Cal. Really deep sand though...you're stuck no matter what kind of tires and pressure you are running!
