I am considering a Ford Explorer as a replacement for my Honda Pilot. As a ham radio operator I want to find out how easy it is to install a transceiver in an Explorer. Also are there electrical/electronic noise problems. Will the radio confuse the cars computer.

I had a 250 watt HF radio and a 50 watt dual band radio in my 2023 Maverick and there were no problems in that Ford.

Welcome.

Welcome to the site.

I will be installing my dual band Yaesu FTM500D in my 2025 with the control head just below the headlight switch and the radio in the rear compartment. Antenna on a luggage rack mount rear driverside and power from accessory socket in rear next to light and seat switches. FTM 500 has built in speaker in control head so no external speaker needed.
I will be selling my FT891, the 250 watt amplifier, the Tarheel antenna and the Tunematic controller that was in my 23 Maverick since I am not going to run HF in this car. Anyone interested?
