98 Merc Mountaineer 5.0 AWD. After starting it up you can hear, and slightly feel a light clunk coming from somewhere under the passenger side floorboard. Has anyone experienced this before?

Maybe a broken exhaust mount letting the cats bounce? that happened to me, sounded uglllly

Where are the motor mounts exactly? How hard are they to replace? my 97 taurus needs them, so im sure a 92 explorer might need a new set lol

My ranger does the same thing. Usually only on cold starts and when im sitting still. I start it up and sit there for a sec to let the oil circulate then there is a clunk like someone hit the bottom of the truck with a tennis ball.

Dont mean to jack your thread just saying im curious what the answer is.

Thanks guys. Good info to look at. To answer one question, I'm not moving. It happens about three seconds after it starts.

this is a long shot, but is it a bad clunk? if its not too audible, it could be a starter solenoid sticking out, then 3 seconds later pops the bendix back from the flywheel.

If it was something loose on the exhaust then it should do it more than just on startup. It could be the starter but thats on the left not under passenger floor board.

Could it be the blend door?

5.0L starter is right under pass side floorboard

pass side torsion bar is usually the source of my clunk, but thats while driving??

get under there and have a look!
