i plan on getting a set of JBA headers pretty soon. Whats the deal with coatings? what do they do? will my headers crack or be damage if i do not have a ceramic coating? <= n00b question sorry lol. on explorer express i can choose from the silver ceramic, titanium ceramic or chrome plated. chrome plated is the cheapest and id love to go with those but they are not coated. is getting a pair of coated headers good since i would think they are made to last? i have 66,000 miles on my beast and want something good.

I had uncoated JBA's on my 4.0L and the heat under the hood SUCKED, the floorboards got hot, melted everything within an 1" of them (speedo cable, etc)

I now have ceramic coated TM's on my V8 and it is SOOOO much cooler under the hood.
Do not skimp, get the coating, I will never get another set not coated.

Ceramic, if you gotta have headers, but on your engine, headers will get you next to nothing perfwise

I agree with Spindle on this one, V6 headers are a big way to spend some time and $$$$ for basically nothing, you can take that $$$ and put it to really good use...

I bought my old JBA's used for $125 and already had the engine out, plus I am nuts so dnot always listen to me :) You can search this forum to find get an idea if you think its $$$ well spent of not

I had a set of uncoated headers once, they were Hooker, and after the paint burned off they began to rust. Two years later they fell off yes that was thirty years ago and I doubt they even had coatings then but you get the point.

yea i read up about getting a set of JBA headers. it seems to me that people like them 50/50 saying they are great to get and the rest saying spend money else where. im gonna spend the extra money and get the ceramic headers since stuff melting is not so great. headers are pretty much the last thing to do on my truck since i have done everything else i can to it performace wise. thanx guyz!

What have you done perf wise?

superchip, ford racing throttle body, flowmaster exhuast, k&n intake... there is another guy i talked to a long time ago and he said that if i didnt have a bunch of bolt ons u wont get ur bang for ur buck. he said my next step would be to get the headers. we pretty much had same mods done at the time. how do u feel about it?

Comes down to bang for the buck,Is just about exhaust flow and your OEM headers are fine.
You might see 2/3 extra ponys.

I didn't think they made headers for the SOHC. I thought JBA made them only for the OHV.

Dan

headers for the SOHC have been out for a bit now.
