So I've been doing a lot of reading in the forums and have come up with 2 questions I can't seem to figure out. I made the mistake of putting true duals on my X which I'll be taking care of shortly, but if I were to throw some JBA headers on, would that just rob me of my low end all over again? I always thought it was a worthwhile upgrade in the quest for HP, but some have said you actually loose a bit. Also, I wanted to make my truck a little quicker off the start. What kinda gears would be best suited to that? I've been lookin at 4.10's but I'm not all that knowledable about these things so... Thanks guys.

In the Under the Hood section of this forum there are some Axle 101 parts that I've written that should help you with your gear issues and understanding gears.

Find out what your gear ratio is now and maybe go a little higher (number wise) to geta little more low-end. With more low-end you'll loose high end, but headers give you more high end torque so you may be in a win-win situation

oh one last question...are the headers really worth the $400+? I'm lookin to gain HP however I can, but only if its worth it.

Yes, If you have other mods on your Explorer they will pick you up in hp and torque.. It has been proven many times. It picked my truck up,all the way around. Aldive out peak hp'd me (by about 5-6hp) but he had a electric fan and I had a mechanical. I carried more average hp and definately more torque!
