Heim joint TTB?

wow...

your truck most likely won't align because you have tierods that are bent to hell. when you bend them, they get shorter, which is why you have very little thread left for adjusting.
you do not need the outer TRE's to flex hardly at all, when the truck flexes. the steering stays very close to the same angle as the beam does as it articulates. Most heims actually articulate (flex) LESS then a lot of stock balljoints and TRE's. the "cone things" are called high-misalignment spacers.

also, the superrunner steering setup is garbage, from a geometry standpoint. steer clear of kits like that.

thank you so much for your wise words..
i was simply brainstorming and wanted more information before i just went cutting up stuff and not knowing what i am doing. i just needed a person like you who knows about heims and all that jazz to give me info.

and about the tie rods bent to hell...i think you have it backwords, yes they get shorter, but i measured and they are the same length as the stock ones. these came with a bend in them and are stock, i DID NOT bend them. but the 2wd TRE is actually longer then the 4x4 TRE so i have to thread the TRE in more, thus i have no thread left. but anyway i found a solution i believe. lets hear some opinions.
i will buy a set of 4x4 couplings, and a set of 2wd couplings and cut them each in half. then i will take the 4x4 outers and weld them to the 2wd inners. does this sound acceptable?

4x4junkie, I'm going to draw some pics better explaining myself after work.

And as for laws...inspection... And other junk like that, Oklahoma doesn't have inspection nor do most cops care about how a vehicle works. Aslog as it's safe and can move then most of them are cool with anythig.

B4000 hit it right on the head as to what my problem(s) is. I have your average drop pitman arms that comes in every single kit, yet it's not enough. I do not want to buy the FA 600 because it's expensive (I don't have the money right now) and I just don't think it will solve my problem. So I am just going to experiment with different styles of steering setups till I find one I like.

You're wasting your time. The only thing that's going to fix your problem is to lower the point where the steering linkage attaches (longer arm, either that or lower your lift height down). By the time you've wasted all this $$$ buying crooked linkages, heims, TREs and all this other junk, (not to mention the toll it's going to take on your tires in the meantime), you could've just bought the FA600 arm.

But what do I know? I've only been messing around with these things for 20 years now.

Are you a ticketed welder? Welding steering components isn't even legal here at home... I don't know if I entirely follow your plan but it sounds like you are about to be a candidate for the "Scary Steering" site...

And don't listen to 4x4junkie... I mean, no one ever bothers to ask him steering or suspension related questions and he never EVER has good answers or more knowledge about the TTB then most people on here... nope... so don't listen to him. ;)

Alright. You guys win.
Anybody got an FA600 sitting around they wanna sell me?

I have a fa 400 haha wish they made a fa 900

I don't like to brag really... But I am a pretty damn good welder for my age. And I wouldn't put something on my truck if I or my buddies didn't think was safe

On second thought...I could just have one drawn up on cad/cam and make one with 8 or 9 inches of drop. Then have it CNC cut

Just make sure that you choose out metal that has the strength that you need w/o being brittle. Otherwise highway speeds and a snapped pitman arm could turn ugly really fast, especially for the motorists on the road who don't have rock armor.

Can you really get a custom CNC machined pitman arm built for cheaper than $190? I would really like access to those kind of toys...

I wasn't really trying to rag on you... I just think you're fighting a losing battle. You're steering has to be on the same plane as your axles... anything else just aint gonna cut it...

Check out the steering that "Bent Bolt" made over on TRS... It's pretty sweet and no welding... so it's legal here...

Yeah I really can. Reason being is that I have to draw it up on cad/cam and take the time to measure out the splines so it fits on the gear box. All I am out is time, and the cost of any cutter(s) that may go boom.

But to be honest I won't do that. I do t have time to and don't want to risk it snapping on the highway. I'll just check out other peoples steering and make a hybrid. I would really like to eventually make some style of "cross over" steering.

I think your steering box sector shaft would be screaming bloody murder with an arm like that.

I kindof actually like the Stonecrusher type setup. It's a lot simpler than taking a Superrunner setup and having to modify it to have correct geometry (and is said to work well even on the "normal" (too short) drop arm... although I'm not so sure of that if the lift is actually higher than 4").
I'd like to compare it to my modded Superrunner someday.

i would like to try it as well. but seems to only really be good for a 4 inch lift. and im moving to a 6.5 or so. i duno wtf im gonna do. SAS?

Use the Stonecrusher setup with the FA600 arm. No question it should work fine then.
SAS is certainly another option as well.

Tall lifts (done properly) won't ever come cheap. No two ways about it.

4x4junkie, You might just get your wish if you ever come to Colorado. I have every intention of purchasing the Stonecrusher setup when funds allow. And then I might get crazy and maybe even purchase a decent set of rear leafs.

got the fa600, having a clearance problem somehow::mad:. need some help...thanks guys
