Greetings...

I tend to do a visual inspection of my tires every month or so (currently Michelin A/T's I believe, 235/75/15) and noted that the front tires (both) had surprising wear to the outer edge. The tread is worn like / (looking at the left tire from behind the tire) and I fear that there is too much wear on the area just below that. Granted, I have a huge tire failure phobia thing. <grin> (Bad luck: bought them *just* before the recall - as in 3 weeks - and while everyone else was getting their money back, I was out the $600...sigh...)

I suspect a bad alignment issue. Do you guys agree? Do you think they're safe for another 1000 mls? If there any issue with replacing only those two and doing the others in a few months?

I am pricing tires at NTB and getting $604 w/ alignment for the XCLT4, an addt'l 25 per tire for the LTX A/T's and about $630 for the XCX. Are those prices reasonable or should I price elsewhere?

Lastly, my preference is for Michelin as I have loved the handling of them till now and prefer good handling to any sort of ride comfort. No one seems to have made any complaints in the threads I have read about them. Anyone have any complaints about any of the models.

Thanks in advance for the help - and the mention of the chalk test. I will probably do it after I get the tires mounted.

Laura,
The Michelins are a great tire - stay with them for road driving. Your wear problem is coming from a bad alignment (more than likely). A couple things could have cause it - general wear, sagging springs - hitting pot holes and so on. Get an alignment that will be guaranteed for as long as you own the truck. hope this helps...

Michelins

seems like a little high but michelins are great road tires I used to have XCLT4's and they are a good tire i put them on used off of my parents Jimmy and they already had 40000 on them I used them for another 15000 and then sold them to a buddy that currently is using them on his 94 F-150:D

I'd shop around. You can probobly get a better price than that, unless they come with some kind road hazard warranty.

How long have the tires been on the truck? Have they been regularly rotated? It's normal to see a little more wear on the outside and inside edges of the front tires, since they do the turning. If the wear looks excessive, then there may be an issue with the alignment. Also, what pressure do you run in the tires? If the tires are a little underinflated the edges will wear too. Just some ideas to look at before you go dropping cash on an alignment.
