Hey guys, I just made 2 sub boxes for my 8" subs, and I want to cover them in some black vinyl, I think with some small padding? I have no clue how to cover with vinyl. Do you pull it around the back and staple it? Do you used glue adhesive? How do you do the corners of the box? how do you do the holes for the sub and the terminal? Oh, and is there any place to get vinyl besides a fabric specialty shop?

you will need:

thin layer of foam padding

extremely good glue, no cheap stuff.

and a heat gun to form the corners, no exceptions.

the rest you'll figure out.

p.s.- and a practice sheet of vinyl :)

No but I don't know how to do the corners at all. Do you fold it it a special way? or cut it and try to blend it together?

Try not to overlap more than an inch on any side. I recomment 3M adhesive spray can. And oh, be patient when doing it. Do not rush the job and you'll be happy at the end result.

Ok, so you cut and overlap on the corners? Does anyone have a picture of a corner covered in vinyl? I couldn't find one...

What is the thin foam padding for, and will having the padding still allow the subs to seal properly.

I don't know either... wish i did. The lady at the fabric place said i shouldnt need any backing cause the vinyl has fuzzy stuff on the other side??

if you dont use padding you will see:

screw heads poking up through the vinyl

rough uneven lines where the seams meet

woodtexture in the top of the vinyl

and very rough sharp edges on the box.

even the surface of the wood will show bumps in the vinyl.

Would the same be needed for covering in carpet?

I don't think this applies to carpet, because it does better at covering up textures from underneath.

onelasttry - do you know how to do the seams?
