Since my hood has a big gash in it, I was looking into a cowl induction but can't find one for a reasonable price. So I decided to make a FUNCTIONAL hood scoop. And I can't beleive I'm saying this, but yes, I searched.

Anyone have any ideas of some that would look good? If it functional, how would I keep water from getting to the intake/spark plugs?

This may not apply to you, but my old buick (GS stage 1) has a ram air setup (carbed) Under the scoop (mounted to carb like an air cleaner) it had a big plastic piece that had foam to seal to the bottom of the hood. This piece was in front of the engine and had a dip in it as it went back toward the carb. In the bottom of the dip was drain holes. No water ever got into the engine with it.

Give you any ideas? The buick was functional the torino was not, but was open.

functional shaker scoop would be cool

That's what I want, but it would be over a grand to get it right.

Dman: I wanna do something different than the EE one

Brian: That won't work for me because the gap is to big between the intake and the bottom of the hood. I'm not making it ram air, just got get cool air into the engine.

You could alwasy take your messed up one and build off of it. Then make a mold and.....now someone makes fiberglass cowl induction hoods for ours.

Of course I get to "test it for life" when you make the second one. :D

Truthfully, I was about to cut my ranger one open and weld up a ram air scoop on it. I was going to make it similar to my torino (above pic), but ram air. Then I bought my X. :(

Know anyone good at welding (steel fab) and body work?

I'm a full time MIG/TIG welder at work. Decent at body work, but youre a long way away. I want something pretty simple, I'm really wanting to hurry up and pull my engine.

Ahh ok. Just trying to think of ideas. There was one guy on a another site that screwed a mustang scoop down to his ranger hood. It was just open on the bottom side, so I don't know if it let water in (had too didn't it?). it did look good once it was painted though.

Ram Air doesn't work. Its all lies. The WS6 packages and stuff like that that add "Ram Air" add less restrictive intakes and exhausts to generate extra power.

As far as making a functional scoop... you could always just take a sawsall to your mess up one, and fabricate a few pieces to make it look like whatever you want.
