Can I just put a larger diameter TB on my 93 4.0?

Without doing anything else?

Eh?

I read a thread that said you need a tuned MAF for that, but I believe my MAF reads incoming air volume anyway, so what gives?
I have a mustang magazine that says I can bolt one on a 5.0, and the MAF will compensate.

ALSO;
Is there a larger one from another vehicle that you know would fit, so I could grab it from a wrecker?

Is my stock one a 58, or 60mm?

AlSO, IN AN UNRELATED VEIN;

Am I just sleepy, or does "throttle" seem like a wierd word?
And how did we get the expression "throttle someone"? Does it mean throat in latin er sumptin?

to benefit from a larger TB, you should have intake (filter) and exhaust mods. You don't need a larger MAS to benefit, though it would help on your 93.

I recommend the 66mm BBK unit, sold through www.truckperformance.com . The 63mm unit through www.vanirtech.com might be a better idea if you're not going to get a larger MAS though.

But again, you should have filter and catback mods first. A chip will help, too.

Thanks, I have a filter mod, so I`ll put that on my wishlist after new exhaust.

:D

I have The BBK 66mm Throttle body on mine, now I didn't change my MAS.... But I have Cone Filter, Cold Air Intake, Flowmaster 3" Exhaust......

oh yea and forgot to say that It runns great, so I'm not sure what kind of a diffrence a bigger MAS will do, but I've read in a couple threads that it dont help, not sure how much of it is true... correct me if I'm wrong

a throttle is a restriction or cut-off. when you open the throttle, more air or whatever comes in. So, when you throttle someone, you put a restriction on them. like choking them with your hands. My Ford mechanic needs this proceedure done.

I could think of alot of mechanics that need that:D

Okay I`m going to bump this up to try to get an answer for one of my questions.

IS there a larger throttle body from a different vehicle that would bolt up to my engine, with same TPS?

I`m thinkin I could save some $ by hitting the local wreckers.

There is no other throttle body that will simply bolt on.

You can machine yours for a larger bore and use the throttle plate from a larger Mustang TB, but it's easier just to buy the BBK unit. I have the BBK unit and it is a quality piece, I love it.

The larger MAS will help, not only is the factory MAS restricting your intake but itis also slow compared to the good aftermarket ones. The aftermarket MAS will send a more accurate signal to the EEC twice as often. So the engine runs smoother and respondes quicker. The Granatelli 70mm MAS I have on my 4.0L was one of the best upgrades I made and my intake and exhaust were already done. I got it n sale at truckperformnace.com for $250 like a year ago, it is calibrated for 19# injectors and works flawlessly.

Now I have also seen guys simply boltup 5.0L MAS bodis with the 4.0L meter in them, seems to work okay! Might want to look into this as a cheap alternative.....

Hey that 5.0 MAS idea seems nifty! I`ve not seen it mentioned elsewhere yet. Do you know if it bolts right in place of the other one?

I was looking into the BBK ones and wonder, what size you got?

Mine is the 66mm unit. Works great! It changes throttle response.

I would use the Mustang style MAS with a KKM intake setup, then it doesnt need to bolt to the 4.0L airbox, but yes I believe the Mustang MAS will bolt up tothe airbox.

It is an old trick, some people say it doesnt work, some say it does, the one I have seen, as long as the sensor from the stock meter is used in the Mustang body, it should work fine, it may not be the "precise" signal the computer is looking for but it seems to be within range as no lean/rich fuel problems resulted.

I never did it because I was told so many times it wouldnt work, I finally broke down and bought the Granatelli, which is nothing more then a Mustang 70mm body with a recalibrated Ford meter (recalibrated for 19# injectors)

OIh and one more nifty piece of info. There is a company that makes a little wire harness and box that plugs in line with your MAS meter and allows you to adjust it! This is similar to what Vanir sells, if not hte same unit. So you can bolt on a Mustang MAS body with your 4.0L sensor and then use this beauty to "tune" it or dial it in.

I forget who makes it, it was months ago that I came across it online, but it was like $100. I will search for this baby again........
