How to: Interior lights on - Door Ajar

If you have handle controlled interior lights and they are always staying on and you have the door ajar light on, you are going to love this fix.. It's an easy and a cheap fix, and is the way to perform your maintenance of this switch...

Put your fuse and bulbs back in, roll your windows up and get a can of wd40 with the straw...start with your drivers door...from the outside pull the handle up and where the handle goes thru the door, squirt a little wd40 in both those slits...open the door and just work the outside handle a few times...go to the passenger door and do the same....thats all there is to it...good luck...:D

Update

...If you have an X, You may also need to wd40 your rear hatch latches and If this does not fix your problem and this is a normal fix, you may have some other issues so please read post #8,#12, and 13 of this thread...;)

...Maybe a broken wire could also be your problem??

interior lights stay on

My '97 starting doing that, so far slamming driver's side is working but problem clearly is around door and rear window latches not connecting

This thread beyond helped me back when I first got my truck. Even after literally disconnecting every door the door ajar light was still on. Sprayed some WD40 and slammed them all shut a couple times each, and hasn't been a problem since (over a year later)

That's Awesome

Wow, just found this video on Youtube by FordTechMakuloco that is one of the best DIY fix videos I've ever seen.
This is an absolute must see!:
Had searched youtube for 2002 Ford Explorer door ajar.

Bought my 2002 XLT in 2015 and it always had the door ajar light ON. Always wondered why the dome lights didn't come on when door opens, like every other car known. Duh!

Watch the video, you'll have 100% confidence you will be able to fix the problem.

Interior lights stay on
Please don’t use WD-40. It’s a solvent, not a lubricant. There are plenty of lubricants available at an auto parts store or even Walmart.
