I've never written anything like this so please, bear with me.

As some of you may know, I had a slight problem with my lock cylinder...as seen here :

So, time to get to work.

Here's the broken cylinder

I snapped it right off while trying to start it.

So off to Auto Zone for the parts that I needed. One lock cylinder and one rented steering wheel puller. A word of caution... Don't take apart the lock cylinder. It comes ready to install. If you take it apart get ready for a jigsaw puzzle. Took me half an hour to get the damn thing back together right.

First, we DISCONNECT THE BATTERY. Leave it disconnected for a bit before attempting the removal of the airbag. Don't want that bad boy smacking you in your face while you are trying to remove it.

Next, to the steering wheel. On either side of the steering wheel are screw caps, that cover 1 screw on either side of the steering wheel.

Remove the airbag. There are a couple of wires you will need to unplug, just unplug and remove.

After that, you will see this -

Time to rip that steering wheel off. Attach rented steering wheel puller like so -

Had to put the extra socket on the end. I got the wrong size puller. It was too short. Don't make the same mistake, it ruins the socket.

Turn the bolt until the steering wheel comes off.

Yay. You did it!

Take care when removing this piece. There is a ribbon cable hat controls the electronics on the steering wheel. You don't want to damage that.

Time to remove the lower steering wheel shroud.

There are 4 philips screws holding it on. This is what it looks like when that's removed.

If you look at where the lock cylinder is in the above picture, you can see a silver dot. That's a pin that's holding the cylinder in place. Push that out and you can remove the cylinder.

This is what it looks like when you've removed the cylinder.

Line the new cylinder up and just slide it in place. The pin in the new cylinder should fall into that hold locking the whole piece in place.

Congratulations. You've just replaced a lock cylinder.

Now replaced everything that you removed. DO NOT REATTACH THE BATTERY UNTIL YOU HAVE ATTACHED THE AIRBAG. Yo don't want that thing exploding while you are reattaching it.

Be careful when putting the steering wheel wiring back on as you can scrunch and pinch it. You don't want to do that. I'm sure it isn't healthy.

Okay good, ... now why did you remove the steering wheel.

Actually-
you could take part of your writeup, and make it a "clockspring remove and replace how to" thread also--
Thanks for the writeup--

Just to let anyone who decides to do this know....

If the new cylinder comes apart before you put it in, go buy a new one.

I am having issues that I shouldn't have had. I believe I am going to have to replace the cylinder again.

Lots of starting the truck, and having no radio or lights, or having the abilty to start with any key.

Not a good combo.
