...grease nipples that is!:D

I tried to lube my 96 Explorer today, but I can't find any grease nipples. What's up with that?

Are they some kind of sealed units? The boots feel bone dry, so I'd like to add some grease to them somehow.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!:)

No grease nipples on my X either. I was told by a mechanic that it can be lubed with a grease gun fitted with a needle. The needle would be inserted into the boot. I haven't tried this, as the tought of puncturing the boots bring to mind images of the hole growing over time. :(

They are meant to be sealed units. As mine wore, I replaced them with "nippled" ones.

No nipples huh? sounds like a personal problem. :D :p

Unless you know what your doing CV boots are ment to be serviced by a mechanic. Sorry :(

Don't just go putting holes in them. Good luck. :)

I wasn't talking about the CV joints, I mean the Tie Rod Ends, Ball Joints, any stearing linkages, etc.

But as someone said, they must be sealed units.:(

Thanks guys.

I haven't seen grease fitting since the 70's
The spin was: make em lifetime because the service guys blew the seal with high pressure grease guns
right!

Anyone ever hear of using a needled grease gun to re lube CV's without removing boot?

HAHA

I saw "I dont have any nipples" on the subject line, then "IgotTwo" after that.

:D

Stand by I'm checking....
one...... got em! yeap they're both there

I think its on the recent posts again.... how many times should I do this till it is no longer funny?

I had grease fittings on my wifes 96 Chev Cavalier...

Obviously an overstatement ....there was a time when U joints and and all critical lube point had fittings.

I have a 67 PU and it takes forever to hit em all. So lifetimes solved a short interval maintaince item too...
