I dont want to part from my 92XLT

okay well i finally got to speak to my sister and she told me it did overheat smoke was coming out of the car. it was not fire type smoke but ofcourse from the antifreeze. when she had it towed to the front of the house she said she put gas in the car and a bottle of antifreeze because the man that towed the car, told her that there might not be any gas in the tank. so when she got the antifreeze she poured it in. it turned on fine she said it wasnt making any noises but she didnt drive it anywhere. a couple days later my- bro-in-law went to check the car it didnt have any antifreeze so he poured a little bit of water he turned it on and all the water dropped out of the car. so i guess its the water pump. anyone else agree that the water pump is in fact the problem?

Well, if the radiator won't hold water with the engine not running, it's most likely the radiator, radiator hoses, or heater hoses. It could also be the water pump, but I'd look at that last (that's the hardest part to replace).

Bottom line is, you need to fill the radiator and see where the water comes out, and how fast. You could get really lucky and just blew a hose (very cheap and easy to fix).

I agree with the other posters, if she let the water out while driving, it could be engine damage, most likely it would start and run otherwise (although not run well for long).

First thing you need to do is decide if you're willing to pay to fix/replace the engine (if it turns out to be that bad). If not, I'd bring it to a trusted mechanic first to get a sense of how bad it may be. If he says it needs a motor, lose the truck before you spend money on a water pump, etc.

If the truck is worth a motor replacement, I'd start with the obvious stuff above to get it to hold water, then deal with the engine problem next.

My logic here is that if it's going to cost $300 to replace all the parts to keep the water in, and the engine is dead, you'll be out that money and time if you decide not to fix the engine.

Hope this helps.

Mike

i will look into doing that tomorrow since it is kinda cold over here i dont want any water to freeze inside the car. i guess its going to have to be boiling hot water. thanks hearing that makes me think good things hopefully its just that but if it isnt i might just be looking into getting another car. i'll keep you guys posted thanks everyone.

no go get a gallon of pure antifreeze and split it 50/50 (make 2 gallons) add that don't put pure water in hot or cold (7-10$$$ to do this ) tell us where it runs from... my buddy wife did this and when they started his truck it ran fine until he added water then it started to run out hte exhuast pipe:confused:

im gonna go take a walk to advance autoparts right now thanks for the heads up. will be back soon

okay well it doesnt seem to be leaking while off unless ofcourse if there was any water remaining in the radiator and hoses froze i wouldnt be able to tell im gonna try to turn it on and see if it does anything or should i not turn it on?????

well i poured antifreeze in it but it isnt leaking from anywhere the car still doesnt turn on though. any suggestions?

turn on ??do you mean engine rotates and no start...... or no engine rotation...?

how's the fuel pressure....any coming from the schrader valve?

i wasnt able to get the compression tool so i couldnt test that. is there a way to do it without the tool?

Do Explorers have that emergency fuel pump shut off thing too? I had a Ranger that had it. Just died on me going down the road. It would spin but not start. Took it to a shop and they said that part had failed and they replaced it. Started right up and never happened again.

Didn't say if you have fuel at the rail...
as for compression testing...i only know how to do it with a gauge (the kind that screws into the spark plug socket) then crank the engine to get that 1 cylinder pressure.

They are not that expensive, just a gauge and a threaded hose

do the gas bottle trick... shcrader valve you need no specail tool you can use a small screwdriver to push it in ...

gas bottle trick????? for compression test...plz enlighten me
that was a early post about taking the breather tube(black) off the intake and squirting gas down it to see if it would start ... I'm at work let me walk out and look at mine...

i cant get it to start no way so i guess im gonna go ahead change the water pump myself drain the coolant then the thermostat and then challange myself with the headgasket

did you do the gas bottle trick?
did you check the shcrader valve?
if you did and your getting gas to the valves and you got fire it may be compression if so replaceing the head gasket may bee a $200 plus mistake if the rigs got crystalized then it will need a complete rebuild...
