I am doing the 5.8L swap to my Explorer.I am running an AOD.Now i am serching for a complete EEC4 harness from a car.So far i can find alot of T-birds and cougars and Mark 7 in the yard, but can i still use these harnesses and ECU's???Does it have to be Mustang specific??? I know i will have to do the mass air swap due to the engine i chose to run the 24 lb injectors. So if i can use the wire harness from the speed density cars,i will buy a 70MM mass air calibrated for my injectors but what pcm can i use????Will a mustang A9P work?????

Help me please!!!!!!!!

What car did your 5.8 come from?
I'd be inclined to use the wiring harness from that same yr, make and model. I'll bump your post for others ideas, anyway.

Yeah you should have the computer and complete harness from the donor, if you dont have it now,l get it!

You will then need to map it out, label all wires that go to the car/truck and not the engine/drivetrain.

Then you will be ready to build a conversion harness.

well i bought the engine from a 95 F-150 about 2 years ago......I never got the harness due to the engine was going into my 86 Capri. I used the harness from that car and modded it to work only for that car....so i am staring from scratch. This was not a planned thing for the engine till the trans gave up in the X.

find the stock harness and computer from that truck or one like it, you will be way better off as a starting point.

You can always buy a Windsor fox harness, but not many can afford those :)

Well i have a Mark7 harness now that i will start with. The engine is moddified from the stock engine quite a bit so i will have to swap to a mass air set up.

Fox Windsor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would have to sell my explorer to pay for there harness. Would be a nice "no brainer" one but i like getting my hands dirty.

Allright well you can build your own harness its not tat difficult the early EFI systems are pretty basic.

You will need to modify the PCM and engine harness to accept your trucks power distribution and body harness. Where would you like to start?

Well i would like to make it so that i can just plug it in and give the truck the stock :) look.
Also, the shifter for the AOD is what?? P-R-N-D-2-1??? The one in the explorer is P-R-N-OD-D-2-1. Can i use the F-150 Shift cable and mate it to work with the AOD so it looks stock????I guess i just leave the shifter in the OD position while driving. Can you modify the Trans lever on the AOD to work with the colum shifter????

all of the above.

You will be using the plugs off your old 4.0L harness, solder the pins onto the new harness and the end result will be a plug and play unit.

The first thing to do is map out what you have, on the truck coming from the big white plug, and from the PCM for the new drivetrain. It gets tricky because wonderful Ford decided that the 4.0L harness would be built into the trucks underhood wiring, so your ABS, headlights, etc etc are all wrapped up together with the 4.0L engine and trans harness. You will have to remove everything you dont need anymore (engine and trans) splice in the new stuff for the V8 and BLAMO, new harness. They take about 18-20 hours of actual build time for a basic conversion harness, with umpteen hours of research, tracing, and re-checking. I think I have built about 12 or 14 now.

You can use your column shifter in many different ways.
The best one I have seen was my friend Joe's truck, he is now running a Mustang HO engine with a 4r70w, using the Baummenator trans controller.
His shift lever (93 Ex) was cut and the end of a ranger shift lever with the OD button in the tip was welded on. He then deleted the 1 position by welding up the detent in the A4LD column shifter. Then he made a custom clear plate with the new position indicators and it looks factory. I believe if you are creative you can use your existing cable.
What I find with Ford is there is always a part from a car or truck that will work for your conversion, shift cables, fuel lines, etc.......

Well i have to say i suck at electrical....Thats why I do all the other stuff at work. This will be a challange but i hope it pays off in the long run.I hope to do the swap before the Fall (actually we only really have summer and winter so i have to hussle my @$$)
Where can i actually get a list of what i have to do to make the V8 harness work in the Explorer that will not look like a huge scarry task???

You need the wiring books for the donro vehicle and the explorer.
Then start mapping :)
Its really not all that bad, plus there is ALOT of help for this conversion these days, you willbe running the same fuel injection system basically as any other V8 conversion of your year engine.

Does this 5.8L have a distributor? Being a 95 I am not sure on the 5.8L

It did. It used the dizzy till 96 then it went to the 4.6L. I had to use the 87-94 dizzy due to some 95 vehicals went to OBDII

I am hoping the we still have an EVTM for both the 92 X and 89 Mark7. Alot of them have gone missing over the years.

Ok. I don't have a 92 Explorer EVTM.....Does anyone have a scanned copy for me to print off???

Does it matter if the lincoln was a mark 7 or a mark 7 LSC??????It was a 5.0L
