I need a answer pronto. shopping for tires

I just bought a 1999 ford explorer. I want to throw on 31 inch tires on it. do i need a lift kit or can it be done without a lift?

I figure a two inch lift kit would be nice since there only 200 bucks.

another problem is i cannot find a lift kit for my year. if anyone can shoot me a link that would be great.
