subject sums it up, Im looking at upgrading my 96 v8 to a 3rd gen v6 eddie or v8xlt. Ive been searching the forum and some online and can't find much info. Some of you guys have to go to the track I know it. lol If so please let me know what you got quarter mile wise. the v6 is I beleive a 4.2l Im buying it off my parents possibly.

Im looking for one vehicle to replace my 4.7l dakota street truck and the v8 daily driver. I need to look at an suv now since I have achild on the way. I don;t know how much more faith I have in my 168,000 mile 5.0l.

thanks for the reply I did find that one and talked with rocket.

Im looking for the sohc and 4.6l with intake exhaust and flasher thats way more motor work then I would do. Id never get that type of money snuck past the wifey.

Well, I got a 10.4 in the 1/8th the only time I have run. We had probs with my friends stang (he broke his pinion gear) so I only made 1 pass.

17.4 1/4 mile

05xlt v6 or v8?

limited the calculates to 16.21 not bad for a 4x4 suv. any pics of your truck I though about getting cobras as well(never mind found it on your myspace)

2003 4.6 V8...

With the 20's on and just exhaust and CAI I pulled a 15.85 on a warm night about 3 years ago. Now that I look back to that run, I probably could have ran a 15.7 with better driving.

Back when I had just the CAI, exhaust, and Xcal2 flasher I would have put down low 15's had I taken my 20's off. I never did take it to the track before fabbing the KB in there though, but I know it would have been good for that.

V6 with a K&N replacement filter

I thank everyone for there help this has gone a long way into helping me make my decision. =)

Don't take this wrong because I am asking an honest question out of curiosity more than anything. When y'all go to the dragstrip in these SUV's, particularly the majority of you that are stock, Does everyone laugh or roll their eyes?

I mean obviously rocket and a few others have a bit going on with their truck's. But still.....

See I would almost be embarrased to run my 'stang with basic bolt-ons just because it wouldn't impress me. I don't know, I'm not flaming. I am just curious what the track officials and spectators really think when they see a mostly stock Explorer trying to do a burn out....

I don't get any reactions in my truck, good or bad... Now, when I had my 2000 XLT I got more attention from that one... It had a V6 also, but ran a 16.4 on the 1/4 mile.

at the tracks around here in the deep south people run anything down the strip. my quad has spent more time on the 1/8th mile then any of my trucks ever have. no matter what it won;t ever be the slowest vehicle of its class ive seen someone race a dump truck(won his class since there was no one for him to race against).

Not at all. There are sooooooo many sloooooooow cars that are at the track that the stock-ish X's don't really even stand out too much. I see 16+ second civics that are SUPER loud! At least a stock Explorer will run that time but without sounding like it should be running faster. hehe.

Heck, I have seen people post some horrific times at the track even in fast cars. I could have beaten a LS2 GTO and many gens of Cobra's at the track with my Lincoln LS (not really a slow vehicle either) due to their poor poor driving. It is a sad day when you see a 2003 Cobra (12.9 capable car) running a high 14 second 1/4 mile! lololllolol. :D

Thanks for not being offended by my comment I was really just curious. I think it is rather neat to see an X put down the times you are Rocket.

Maybe one day when I get the mustang done I can tow it to the track and run the X. A 4.0 OHV with 33's should be good for a laugh :D Sadly as rocket pointed out though I very well might wipe the pavement with a couple civics :p

I can equate going to the strip for the first time just like lifting weights for the first time. Before you go, you think your going to be the only beginner there who cannot accomplish a darn thing. After you actually show up you realize that there are others in your same boat or worse yet.
