I new it had to happen once day

not sure, but to me it looks like it may have travelled its last mile... are there any sa;vagable parts off of it? perhaps the tranny, tcase, and OMEs? suppose it could be fixed, but it may be way more than its worth... theres a similar sport on CL right now, but its an OHV and a 95...

The $64k question is, what would you like as a replacement vehicle?

Ouch. Sorry, Man.

Not sure but I've had my eyes on a really nice black 2001 Ford F-150 Lightning that has the Cobra hood on it. But I'm not in a hurry though as I have other daily drivers

That sucks
Frame is fubar
Put a fork in it

So sorry to see it looking that way. Just glad you came out of it ok.

Well all came to an end on March 17 of this year. My 1997 Explorer was destroyed in a car accident because a female driver made an illegal lane change and I had to apply the brakes causing me to slide sideways hitting the wall. I guess we will never know if my Explorer will make it to one million miles.
so your total mileage when you hit the wall was???? SUE THE HELL OUT OF HER TOO.!!!!!

That’s not how it works. You cannot “sue the hell” out of anyone. No one was injured, so the only damages are the car. Also, it might be like a deer. If you hit the deer it’s a comprehensive claim. If you swerve to avoid a deer and hit the guard rail, you’ve just been in an at-fault accident.

This is not going to be an easy post as I just got back from the salaved yard a few minutes ago. A lot worse than it looks. Oil was leaking from the front engine, Rack & Pinion was toast, Needs a complete front clip, Front of frame was slightly bent, etc. But here are the pictures...

Sherman makes good replacement fenders. Header panel and headlights shouldn't be that hard to find, impact bar I got mine from Jegs brand new bumper stole one off a eb, my frame was bent a little to up front that's why my bumper cover doesn't sit right. I think even Sherman makes a hood too. Mine was totalled but I was able to get looking almost brand new. Without even breaking the first grand. If you want pics I can show you

Unfortunately, that truck needs a LOT more than a 1,000.

Oh I know looking at the pic it's got a lot more damage then mine did. But I'm just giving him a little hope.

So sorry, but glad you safe.

Damn dude, I’m sorry.

You need to take some part from it and put it in your next Explorer. Its soul must live on.

So sorry for your loss!

Last year when I finally gave up on my '97 (which was my first car and had been in my family since 2006), I convinced myself the only way I'd get over it was to build an even better Explorer as a tribute to the one that got me into these trucks. I eventually found an '00 that was way less rusty and had the same color combination, allowing me to "seamlessly" swap a ton of parts from the '97. Ultimately I ended up with an Explorer that looks and feels a lot like the old one but is actually a better in many ways.

Obviously you can go whichever direction you want for a replacement, I just wanted to testify that I've found it very satisfying to keep the spirit of my old truck living on in a newer one.

but its an OHV and a 95...
In other words....the engine will last near forever (400K without internal work needed) and wont have the timing guides self-destruct well before 200K. Signed: Guy with bulletproof 95 OHV. :)

in other words, this isnt a chance to eventually see a million mile SOHC ;) but an opportunity to gain another V8 Sport:p

Signed: someone with a SOHC who wants a v8;)
(and who had the OE timing guides last 310k:))

/\ It would be nice to have the 5.0 where someone already did the 4406 conversion to it....but my $1,200 ohv was ready to hill climb out of the box...and has more then sufficient torque for off-roading / hill climbing.... :);)

410fortune is your guy ;) and around town (excluding reliability), the SOHC scoots!!! and anyways, the OHV still has the 5r55e;), the v8s have the 4r70w! nah, JK the OHV is great in most case! (just not a huge fan of the trannies)
