Ran across this, although in a 4Runner. Interesting idea...

nothing wrong that with at all...no noticeable difference in sound unless the subwoofer has bad mechanical noise.

just make sure you reverse the polarity and itll work fine

I think (therefore I is) the only problem is the protruding part -- might rip the whole thing off of its mounts if something heavy runs into it (that 5-gallon bucket of paint you've been dreaming to buy).

it would let you run a much deeper sub than you can the normal way
and getting the mass of the sub out of the airspace of the box increases the
internal volume slightly..
Nice idea!

You should always try it both ways to see which is louder. The louder direction is correct.

(Phasing of the musical signal in relation to speaker distances, etc, etc.)

i like how that looks,, but i find one issue,, the real nice Fosgate woofer sitting right out there all easy to remove if a thief got into there,, , and like was mentioned, putting stuff in there,, and hitting and scratching,, maybe unwiring,,

OK
First, it is using the plastic structure for support-

How much does that Speaker driver weigh?

how much force is applied to the plastic mount if, let's say, the vehicle was traveling 65mph and suddenly stopped, like a CRASH!!!

:dunno:

It needs some sort of strapping.

I agree with jt- looks somehow unsecure although it looks like just the trim ring is fastened to the plastic unless you think the wood will pop off the casing since it looks like it's epoxied.

But I can't get past my ocd- he could have at least tried to mount it straight if you're going to do all that work... :)

Bah, I was just about to post that! Just looks sloppy now.

polarity is irrelevant. Depends on the install and setup.

In my exploder it was weird...with the sub wired in phase with the highs the bass output was about 3-4db lower than with with the sub wired out of phase...I don't understand it but polarity is irrelevant to the way a speaker is mounted

I will get some pictures of mine- I had a Kicker CVR8 mounted like this for a while.
