k i have a 93 4x4 xplorer sport. all i have done to it is a raven performance muffler, cut the back cat off, and put a high flow air filter in it. from when i first got the x it is a big increase of power and torque. i want more lol i have access to a 2wd x it has a blown trans but a good motor. so i was thinkin i can get the motor rebuild it put a cam and headers and intake spacers. i dont know what else to do to the motor but as far as the trans will my stock trans be ok if i rebuild it or do i need to get a different transmission? i also want to put a 2inch lift and run 31 or 32 in tires will the stock gear ratio handle that or do i need to change that as well? any info will be helpful thanks

The only real way to get a decent amount of horse power is to simply go v8.

Even the most souped up old 4.0l v6 isn't going to be as powerful as ford's own current 3.0l v6. If you willing to rebuild and install a whole v6 from another x , then just go v8 and save yourself the trouble.

what kind of trouble will it be to put a v8 in my body style x and which v8 do i need to get? ill need the wiring harness and ecu as well right

You could always turbo or supercharge that V6.

Once again turboing or supercharging a 150hp engine isn't going to produce anything close to what a simply better designed engine would.

There's plenty of how to threads on here for installing a v8 just use the search.

I'm swapping a V8 into my 97 sport currently b/c of a 4.o Sohc seizing up
And I believe I heard that my sohc from factory should've had 210 hp

210hp isn't a lot considering the 3.0l produces 240hp. That's why I say go v8 , You'll just see far more power from it.

the newer motors get better fuel economy and have more torque. But they cost more than the v8 to buy.

in a truck like platform HP numbers don't tell the whole story. It's more important to have a good torque curve then raw HP. Unless you're going to be drag racing your SUV then maybe high revs win out.

I imagine the v8 would also have better torque and transmission as well.

on the street, torque rules bro

I have a master plan of one day dripping in a 3.9 Isuzu diesel. 200 ft torque!

I'm pretty sure a stock 4.0 makes more than 200 ft/lbs torque

On the trails too.

Pretty sure you dont need much torque for off road - thats what gears are for (t-case, doubler, axle, etc..). There are plenty of buggies out there with tiny inline-4 Honda engines (Civic). And most of the time, torque is outside of the operating RPM range for off road. Traction is what people need to focus on, not so much torque. And with the increase weight of big engines, you end up with stiffer suspensions which means the vehicle will ride rough on the trail/rocks.
