Woo hoo, got my AGR steering box today:D

Kind of disappointed though, they did not give me a sticker or anything. Just more JEGS stickers...

Still waiting on the steering pump, that should be here on Monday. Also picked up some new lines also, and I am now debating on whether I should get a cooler for the steering fluid or not...

Man I can't wait to take it wheeling now:banghead:

so what was ur final price for all this ???

id get a power steering cooler!
just to be safe!

pm 410fortune he has a bronco 11 but he also upgraded to the AGR units and he added a power steering cooler because the power steering system can get pretty hot at times. I learned about the AGR unit from him

Steering Gearbox from Jegs: $291 ($110 cheaper than Summit, $100 cheaper than Autozone!!)
Steering Pump from AutoZone: $228 (they were by far the cheapest)
New Lines from Autozone: $32

Now I will start looking into where to get a cooler.

And just for the record, I shopped around between Summit Racing, Jegs, Autozone and AGR itself. Ironically enough, the tech guy I spoke with at AGR specifically told me to shop around. Man I am glad I did!

cant u get a universal cooler from like a napa??

just curious, why did you do this?

I am going to see what PermaCool offers. Reason being, I bought one of their transmission fluid coolers, and those things are topnotch!

I did it because I destroyed my gear box the last time I went fourwheeling and figured this time I would put one in that is built for turning massive tires. And also because my vehicle is 13 years old, I thought it was time to throw a little cash her way and give her a couple new upgrades.

Still working on finding a new steering shaft, I want to eliminate as much slop as possible. Any suggestions?

flaming river makes good steeering stuff for jeeps and others, maybe they do explorers?

An option for the cooler: go to a junk yard and pull a transmission cooler from a 1st gen, just make sure you put it on the "low" side - I are the using this and it is the working (sorry my enelish isa no very gewd).

junkyaed one would work or you can get universal ones at parts stores for 25-50 depending on the size you want.

do you mean low pressure?

I've already got a transmission cooler with a fan installed, and obviously a fan would help, but how useful would a fan be on the steering cooler?

Oh and my pump should be here today:confused:

eeek
I do not have an AGR anything on my truck

I have a factory 98 5.0L power steering pump with 60K miles on it, and a rebuilt 93 explorer power steering box installed in my BII.

I use the Superlift super runner steering linkage with a 4" drop pitman arm

I had my explorer steering box rebuilt by a local guy who does great work, he did upgrade the seals and o rings inside the box.

You must have learned about the AGR stuff from somebody else?

The steering in my BII works great! It's not perfect...yet, but with 35's and a locker it is still effortless

the 5.0L pump is a nice relief after years of the whiney 4.0l pump

Actually another boardmember pointed out that Autozone sold the AGR box and pump, and I checked it out. I gave AGR a call and the tech guy I talked to was really helpful and even suggested that I look around to a couple of their dealers before I made my decision. And this way I know I won't have anymore problems with my gearbox in the future.

dude i bought a gear box and it only cost me 100 dollars and it was a rebuit one like yours.

Of course - they are just about in every parts store. But not all rebuilds are the same -- just like not all rebuilt transmissions are the same. As to whether or not AGR is better than most rebuilds -- well only time will tell after Limited Ex installs it.

Aww, no stickers.

Acorrding to AGR thier pumps are ported and what not for more flow and higher pressure than the factory ford pump. And im pretty sure they are rebuilt to a higher quality than your average "duralast" and "valucraft" products.
