Information Screens Go Blank

Bs

My 2014 Sport has been doing it habitually. I just took it to the dealership today and they tried to tell me it was a result of my aftermarket HIDs. Well how come it shuts off during mid day when my lights are completely off? I have given them a photo of it as well. We shall see what their next rebuttal is.

Ya that's total BS that it's your HID's. Just them trying to get out of fixing it. I have a completely stock Sport and it's been doing the same thing for over a year. No mods, never boosted anyone, nothing....

Hopper32, there is no way to stop the horn from sounding if you exit the vehicle with the fob whle it's running. This has been discussed several times on the Forum. I just don't close the door completely when I do it. Also discussed was how to lock the keys in the car. You simply press and hold the Securicode buttons 7/8 and 9/0 at the same time. I believe it is also covered in the Owner's Guide. A 'Search' brought up these 2 threads;

2014 Dash and Sync Display Randomly going black

My 2014 Limited is acting up. The dash displays on either side of the speedo shut down the other day and came back 30 second later.

The Sync center console display has now done the same thing twice.

This has all started in the last few days - Have other seen this or is there TSB?

TIA - kinda scary when your dash goes.

If the MFT screen continues to do it then you could have an APIM going bad and it will have to be replaced. It has a 5 year warranty.

Sounds like an electrical issue, not an APIM issue, I'd get it in ASAP.

My 2015 LTD just did it as well not only did the right and left panels go dark but the speedo as well. 10 seconds later it was like nothing had happened at all. All is working.

My displays would go out for 10 secs and come back. I noticed this happened in Nav mode when I was getting a voice command. There is a TSB that was done by my dealer (don't know the number) and it has not done it again.

2014 explorer instrument panel goes blank

Just recently purchased 2014 sport had it for about a month. While driving tonight the instrument panel (2 lcd screens) went blank for about 5 secs then came back on. Is this a known problem or just a fluke? My vehical is still under warranty for another year. If it's a known problem I would like it fixed under fords tab!

Ford sync / my touch / both info displays shows nothing for some seconds ? It appears sometimes and it last for some seconds (4...5...) that both info displays are black / both came up again after some seconds / I have no idea what´s the cause of that ! Normal ? "Auto-check" or so ?
Today on the highway (one time in Berlin, 1 time 2 hours later...)

Are you referring to the MFT screen or the two Information Display screens in the dash cluster? The 8" screen is the MyFord Touch (MFT) screen and are separate from the Information Display screens in the dash. It sounds like you are talking about the two screens by the speedometer. Is that right?

Peter

My 8" MFT screen has been doing that since the update to 3.8. I get the Ford splash screen, then a black screen that lasts 5 seconds or more. The radio and HVAC will start, but the screen stays black.

@peterk9, yes, that are the to screens left and right side of the speedometer...

Side screen blank...APIM related?

Hello all,

Well the wife and I needed another vehicle and after bouncing ideas back and forth we bought a 2nd explorer (still have a 2006 that serves its purpose). We bought a 2014 explorer XLT with the 3.5 and sync 2 with 14,x.. miles from carmax. I updated the MFT software from 3.6 to 3.10 a few days ago to attempt to fix Bluetooth calls from dropping off Bluetooth and going back to our iPhone 7's running 10.3.2 (I think- latest apple OS as of today) and the issue hasn't resolved. Sometimes it works great, other times not so much. Well as of today I start it up and the left cluster is blank. No life whatsoever. I'm talking about left of the speedo where you see fuel/rpms/other things as configured. Shut it off and started the X again and still no life. I understand the recall and was already planning on a dealer visit for an A8 nav chip ($169) and all the software updates available ($120) and have the APIM looked at, but am curious of the side screen is considered part of that or not....

Thoughts on if that is part of the recall or if it's separate?

Thanks in advance.

Your thread was merged with this existing one found using the Forum's handy 'Search' feature (upper right).
The two Information Screens are not part of MFT and therefore are not controlled by the APIM. What 'Recall' are you referring to? As far as I know, there isn't a 'Recall' or TSB on those screens. If there was, it would likely be a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin). An other member in this thread had both go out and Ford said to replace the entire cluster.
It would also be helpful if you added the 2014 XLT to your profile so it appears in the margin or add it to a 'Signature' so you don't have to mention it every time you post.

My mistake, not a recall, but extended warranty on the APIM. Since this thread hasn't seen life since May of 2014, TSB 13-9-21 was issued with a software update for the screens. Hopefully that will fix the issue.

Thank you for that reply. Using that TSB number I found the following thread in this Forum; http://www.explorerforum.com/forums...rmation-display-blanks-intermittently.413911/
A TSB will be done free of charge as long as the vehicle is still under the factory warranty or ESP.
I don't believe it has anything to do with the APIM since the 2 screens are not part of MFT. Your dealer should be able to confirm.
