Side screen blank...APIM related?

Hello all,

Well the wife and I needed another vehicle and after bouncing ideas back and forth we bought a 2nd explorer (still have a 2006 that serves its purpose). We bought a 2014 explorer XLT with the 3.5 and sync 2 with 14,x.. miles from carmax. I updated the MFT software from 3.6 to 3.10 a few days ago to attempt to fix Bluetooth calls from dropping off Bluetooth and going back to our iPhone 7's running 10.3.2 (I think- latest apple OS as of today) and the issue hasn't resolved. Sometimes it works great, other times not so much. Well as of today I start it up and the left cluster is blank. No life whatsoever. I'm talking about left of the speedo where you see fuel/rpms/other things as configured. Shut it off and started the X again and still no life. I understand the recall and was already planning on a dealer visit for an A8 nav chip ($169) and all the software updates available ($120) and have the APIM looked at, but am curious of the side screen is considered part of that or not....

Thoughts on if that is part of the recall or if it's separate?

Thanks in advance.

Fwiw, the updates from ford fixed the issues. Also found out any emojis or symbols (non-letters) in the contact list (phonebook) messes up Bluetooth calls. Once edited, no more dropped or "switching off between Bluetooth and actual phone" calls. Running the 3.10 software for MFT 2 and current overall software as of 8/17.

Ok. Spoke too soon. Both sides this time went out and came back later in the day. Is the PCM updates ALSO reprogramming the IPC or are they separate. When I went to the dealer I explicitly paid for and asked for ALL software "bumper to bumper" to be updated and was told that it was all updated through the main computer.

I would guess that they are separate since I don't see a connection between the Powertrain Control Module and the Instrument Panel Control Module.

Has there ever been a fix figured out for this? My left side instrument panel (mileage, fuel, etc) is completely out in my 13' explorer.

I had the same problem on my 2013 XLT. It was a bad LCD screen. I sent it out for repair to this place instrumentclusterstore.com. They charged me $150, quick turnaround. The challenge is removing the instrument panel. It would be better to ask a body shop to help you remove the plastic trim that surrounds the panel. Once that part is out the way you will see 4 screws (7 mm hex). Just remove the screws and disconnect the harness in the back and you can ship the panel to the repair shop.

@peterk9, yes, that are the to screens left and right side of the speedometer...
Your thread has been merged with this one on the same issue. Someone did a Master Reset to fix the issue but that may not always work. You will lose some saved memory settings if you do that procedure.
