Just wondering because with the way Gas is it would BE VERY NICE if it was at all possible. I already know the basics.
Change and flush all fluids.
Clean/Flush Fuel System
Flush Differentials
Take off the spare
Headers
Exhaust
Cool Air Intake.
Don't drive over 3000 rpms or 70mph on the freeway
I already know all of that , but what else can we do to maximize the fuel enconomy of our beloved 5.0 V8 Beasts???:(

Take off the roof rack.
Maximum tire pressure.
Good alignment -little toe and caster as possible.

try to be in someone elses drag, don't be the lead car.

and read aldive's quest for thirty. plenty of possibilities. but the tip about being in someone else's drag is the most help to a stock vehicle. just beware if they brake, you may not have enough time to react. i do it on open interstate when i know there is no reason to brake.

Yea in town it's pointless to be in someones drag.I watched mythbusters awhile back and you can get up behind a 18 wheeler and even 100yds behind you still get better mileage.

Crown Vics could....:dunno:

An Xcal would help. I'll be getting mine the first week of June from James for my 97 Cougar. I've been asking him a few questions.

My Mounty is now my winter vehicle.

My Mounty is now my wife's car.

There, fixed it for you

Use all synthetic fluids, the best Amsoil fluids will gain you a slight amount, paying for the costs. Keep rpm's below 2500 or so, in the 2200/2300 range while cruising. Avoid wide tires and low air pressures, 235mm tires will do better than 255mm tires.

Raise the compression ratio and run mid-grade gas or better, with PCM tuning. Avoid AWD, change it to 2WD or the 4WD transfer case. Keep gearing under 4.10's and drive light footed going up hills, gain speed going downhill. Regards,

My fathers 93 T-bird with a HO 5.0 auto would pull 26 MPG freeway, it's gonna take some work to get a heavy brick up in that range.

I'd say take highway as much as possible, if it isn't much farther than the freeway. From highway speeds to freeway speeds, I loose 2-3mpg. It seems for mine, 60ish is the best speed for mpg.

I get the best mileage on the stock tune, when I asked James about a fuel economy tune he said there really wasn't a whole lot he could do to improve it on the v8's

I've achieved 99mpg in my Mountaineer according to the message center

going downhill. So yes, it's possible. :D
