Hello everyone - I have a '99 Explorer with a bad fuel pump. I live in a area where there are no hoists available so am pondering if it is remotely possible to remove the floor, or part of the floor, above the fuel tank. If anyone has any experience with this topic please advise - Thank You

Dig for info on here. Yes, you can cut the floor for access to the fuel pump. I did it since my tank was full.

Thanks, I pulled up the carpet, the panel immediately under the carpet looks like it may have another under it? The panel I exposed is in very good condition but either way I suppose it's time to figure out how and where to cut it.

When I cut mine, I did encounter two layers at one point…

The cargo area floor is part of the interior side wall panel. its a structural assembly.
Its not that difficult too drop the tank.
Is the vehicle in good shape?

The vehicle is decent altho a fair amount of rust on the underside. I've watched a few vid's of people doing this. It looks like there's very little room between the top of the tank and the body to reach and unhook the lines. I don't have access to a hoist.

The forum search feature is useful. There are topics, though I don't know which one is best.

1. There about a 1 inch of room between the floor and the top of the tank.
2. The fuel pump is held in with a 1 1/4 " long bolts.
You need lower he tank, a little too under clip the fuel lines , event hose. Disconnect the fuel filler neck. There is a brace running across the top of the tank area.
3. Your tank strap, is probably broken. TSP bulletin.
4. I remove my With jack stands and a floor jack. ( a few times this way).
5. Think about it this way. Take a cardboard box. How much of the bottom of the box, can you remove before the box loses it structure.
6. There are a few manufacturers, that have access panel, but it in the floor pan area. I know a few members in this forum, cut in access panel.

That's a good example of what you should do.

If you have air tools. Get an air shear.
Drill corner holes, cut from hole to hole with air shear.

Flashing material can be used for cover.
