Jakee's 4.0 SOHC Build up discussion and motivation thread

Yeap - Two wheel drive...well, actually one wheel drive at times. ;)

Anybody want a real carbon fiber "SILVER" gauge brezel?

Jake, I have a differential for you at the shop. Got your name on it.-jh

Yeap - Still trying to make time to pay you a visit.

Tip of the day.

Here's my tip for anyone that has a 01 sport.

The topic is suspension, and what I say here is my opinion only.

I believe the best suspension (Ride, comfort, drivability, handling...ECT) is to get the X-spec rear sway bar, and remove the front sway all together.

NOW, I've seen posts like this saying "Track Only" and I do want to emphasize that. Taking the front bar off can change things around so make sure not to go around a corner at 100 MPH right after doing this, if you do it. Get use to the feel of your ride. It changes a little but I still feel like it was safe for me....

When I did this, I found the ride was way better, and I could still take corners pretty good, without feeling like I was going to tump over. Keep in mind I do have my X lowered 1-1/2" all the way around; Blocks on the rear from performancetruck center and adjusted torsion bars to get level. Also, the benefit for me doing this was traction. I found this to be better than the tractions bars I had made. No cost to do and a lighter X.

Again, if you consider doing this, be safe!!! I don't want anyone flipping there x over listening to me.
;)

Interior; Take 3

Well, I think I have a winning combination now. I went back to black, got a new steering wheel, a new radio, and a full length center console. I plan on putting most of it back together tonight and will take some pics.

and remove the front sway all together.

Hope you don't got any wash board roads around or anything bumpy around a corner. You don't need sway bars but they can save your truck and from getting seriously hurt. Its not about rolling the thing its about losing the ability to steer.

Xan - Yap, you're right to a degree. Remember, I'm lowered and have a X-Spec rear sway bar. This is not an issue with my truck.......yet.

Did you get your bung hole free? Or is it still frozen up?

No, I got destracted and still haven't messed with the frozen bung.

I can't seem to upload anymore pics?

Jakee - Where did you get your TB? What brand, etc? Sorry for the newbie questions.

I have a '99 Ranger Short Bed that I swapped a SOHC into and it flat out hauls, even in stock form with just a K&N drop in. I'm looking for a little more performance and maybe some MPGs.

Also, I read your entire thread last night, and I must say, I can't believe you didn't pick up anything with the new Y pipe. I come from the Supra world and by removing a cat, you gain 10rwhp NA form and over 30rwhp in boosted form. Anyways, thanks for answering.

I think I did gain something, but I'm not sure what. Alot of mods just move things around in the power band and It's hard to say what happens with the but dyno.

When I first started, I could feel what was going on, partly because i started off so darn slow. Now that I'm a bit faster, I can't hardly tell what does what. that said, if I really want to know what's going on, I have to go to the track or the dyno. I do agree with these NOW. I didn't when I was turtle slow.

Honesly, the biggest gains I got with the SOHC are the open intake, exhaust, undrive crank pulley, and the best gain was the tune. All this will be just childs play someday, cuss i plain on throwing a turbo on it. I've been saying it for far too long now, so I like to keep quite until I actually have it. I can say this much; IF I WERE SINGLE, I WOULD HAVE A TURBO ON THIS THING!!

So where did you get the 4.6 TB? What year did it come off of?

I forgot the E-Fan was a very good mod.

Sorry I dodged your TB question the first time. Like rocket said, it was his stock TB. I modified it by half shafting and porting to smooth things out. You'll feel a lot more throttle responce when doing this mod.

Hellooooo anyone in here? Jake, any updates?

I'm dead to modding right now.

You know that major house rent-a-vation I told you about? We'll it's pretty major. I'll try and shot some pics tomorrow cuss I took a few days off to try and get ahead. Who knows, I may sneak some time in to get the Wideband installed and maybe shoot you some logfiles so I can get this thing tuned. I need to get some time in at the track and post some timeslips along with a baseline dyno for the turbo.

I've been saving money so I can purchase the STS kit from Rocket, then I'll fly you down so we can tune it. The only problem is this is going to be in the future and might even be a year from now. I don't know cuss I bit off more than I can chew with this house project.

So here is the house project and where I'm at. As you can see I have a BUNCH of work to do. The stairs lead up to the second level where there's not even walls yet. I'm looking at a 18' by 30' space that I need to wall in and dry in as soon as possible. Once I get dried in, I can take a break. I'm doing all the work myself so that's why it's taking so long. Trying to hold down a fulltime job, take care of teenage boys and a young daughter, and make the wife happy is keeping me busy. I look forward to when I can get back on the explorer.
