well, finally got myself a new to me truck... its not a ranger or an X, but the suspension is pretty much the same, its rear wheel drive... its a 1985 toyota pickup truck, half ton, standard bed, standard cab, stick, 22r engine, carbed, polished and ported head.. lowered, wide rims and not really low profile tires, but sport truck sized... the rims fill up the wheelwells, but dont stick out... its got 145k on it, but the engine with a reman crank and other new internals was rebuilt last year as was the clutch.... its unladen weight is 2700 pounds...... it moves.... pretty fast.... has a few quirks to it, but it is 18 years old....... pics should be up soon, i am lazy... need to go get it registered in my name and all that stuff.........

I like the older style yotas. Congrats man!

clear conrers, diamiond headlights and clear turns to come soon, after i get it all registered in my name...

i want a billit grill for it, but havent found any yet, i am sure there are some though, i should pick up a copy of a minitruck magazine...... if there are billit grills and clear corners for X, and there are clear corners, clear turns, and diamond cut headlightlights, they must have grilles for the old toys

nicee truck..
im noticing most peeps here once there x go bad they grab a toyota... seems like a good idea for my next car

i would rather have the X, but its broken..... and this little yota will probably make me keep the rubber side down this time, at least until i can save up for a real truck like a lifted 4x4 tahoe, and then get a trail rig to tow behind it...... i drove about 75 miles last night, on a 1/3 tank of gas.......... i filled it up... $18 :) same distance per tank as my X, but half the price to fill it up :)

Congrats Jim! Glad you found something half descent in your price range. That 22R should run forever.

Welcome to the darkside!!! I pick up my '90 yota tomorrow. I paid $800 for it but it's COMPLETELY stripped and I get to go through the headache of getting it registered as salvaged cause it's a stolen recovery. Anyways, 1990, v6 extra cab, 4WD. Missing, hood, fenders, bed, seats, dash, and guages... Everything I was going to through away and replace with aluminum, fiberglass, or aftermarket so it's a good deal!!!

thanks everyone... i think that lil 22r will run forever, since i trust the guy who did the work, and he rebuilt it last year.... he drives hard, like me... and he has owned it since new back in 85.... i know its been taken care of...... he is actually a guy that works for the company i work for, not at my regular store, but at the other local ones..... i have worked with him on several occassions, and htis guy knows his stuff... when any of the stores damage a customers engine or tranny or whatever, this is the guy that out district manager calls for favors.......

congrats, jim! finally gonna get back on the road.

JIM IS A STREETER.

I don't know, he might go and do something rash like cut the roof off. :p

Now, remember Jim, RUBBER SIDE DOWN, SHINY SIDE UP :D :p

Was it a good price?

Congrats Jim, I'm gonna put this in the all other makes and models forum.

Oh Man!!

After all that hard work he put into his X, he's being done like a leoper!

But, I bet it feels good to have wheels again. :D

Good Luck!

well, according to blue book and all that stuff, i overpaid....... i paid $2k for it.... but i do know its history, know that it was taken care of, has a replaced/ rebuilt powertrain... i know it is going to last me awhile...... it does have a few quirks, but nothing a few $ and a little tlc cant fix...... it looks a little rough, but i know that it wont die on me next week... also, although there was no warranty, i do know the guy and he told me that if i ever have any problems with it, that he would help me out in fixing it...... he actually knocked off $100 from the price because it needed a new radiator... i bought the radiator through a supplier or work uses and he installed it on his lunch beofre i came and bought it.... its a pretty good thing to know that the previous owner stands behind his work....... my parents lent me the $ for it... and are letting me pay it off over 5 years!! thats like $33 a month :) now thats a car payment i can deal with :) and from what i saw last night, i went about 75 miles on 1/3 tank of gas..... so that would equate to 210 miles per tank.. i had to fill it up... $18 total :) so half as much gas as my explorer and just as far...... it runs very good.... basically, i hotrodded it around last night and today... it has no hesitations or anything... its actually a fun little truck... well except that it is lowered, i hit a spot on the freeway last night where they were doing construction and smashed my head into the roof.... but being lowered isnt too bad though.. just have to get used to not driving over curbs, and no flying over speedbumps and into driveways, i have to make a wide turn and go over things diagonally, the frame wont hit over a speedbump, but its still lowered, so you just have to be more cuatious.....

I think I'm about ready to see a pic or two of your new wheels.
