Hey Turdle, truck looks good. I just have a weird and random question for you though. How exactly does the liftgate/tailgate mount, latch, and pivot down? Im interested because of a project I'm thinking about doing on a sport.

I would like to make it "hinge" like a tailgate, however for now you have to put it in place and patch it hoping for the best. It doesn't always work the first try either. In other words, it just comes off. :D

so you would turn the handle like you were opening it, and then pop it in place on the stock striker pins? How heavy is the gate to lift in and out?

How about using some old hinges from a 72-79 Ford station wagon? Those had hinges almost like the Ranchero, but they allowed it to flip down or to the side. I thought about doing that with my Ranchero tailgate once. I only got the heavier spring from the station wagon.

Bad day:(

My son and I were preparing to go slay crappie's today.

ooops, the brake pedal went to the floor. WTF?

Well. I did re route the brake lines but I guess I was too late. The passenger front extended line had worn thru and burst just today.

The parts store said they could crimp in a section of hose , just to get it patched until I order another.

Soooooo

I hopped into Matt's mounty to head up there and "squeal cluck squeal squeal"

Welp, after pressing out the rear u joint and finding rust where the pins should be I went about putting in the new one when it hit me. My spares for my Mounty are huge F150 joints. No worky.

So now here we sit with 3 broken trucks. Nice huh?

I think I have a skyjacker extended line if that would help you.

What is your address again?

Thats part of the fun of buying a used SAS'd Explorer. :p: My first hour on our Katemcy run i could not go uphill without stalling... just like i was running a carb. Found out the harness on the passenger side at the engine was rubbing the shock tower.

Welcome to the fix it club. :D

That's a rough day, take a break.

Don't toss the old lines, save them as templates. I may be able to have a pair made for you later.

Yay another club
Thanks
We got the u joints fixed. Sparksaflyin pulled through and delivered 2 of em. Matt helped and learned a few things. So, considering I actually got him to wrench with me for a while it didn't turn out to be a terrible day after all.

He is attending college in Iola so he really needed the truck tomorrow.

Heath, I am sending a pm

Don, thanks. Thats a good idea
I wonder if Dan can make these where he works?

Well phoey. The brake line cannot be temp fixed

So I am looking for new ones, as I think it would be best to match pressure feel, both front line extenders need replacing.

This truck has chevy front calipers, so one end has a round "banjo" fitting and the female end seems to be stock explorer.

I know I ask a bunch of stupid questions, but could someone please tell me what the threaded fitting size is and also what the round banjo fitting is called? This way I can find the best deal.

Thanks!

The round banjo fitting is just a banjo fitting. The ones on our '92 X are round. We picked them up at a local speed shop. I just took in our old line and they created a new line for me. It was a standard brake line (extended and steel braided) and they just gave me correct fittings (screw in) to use. I don't have my paperwork handy so I can't tell you what the connection was from the hard line to the flex line..

edit: My banjo fitting looks like this, but shorter, and not colored :) http://image.superstreetbike.com/f/10796859/0808_sbkp_03_z+brake_lines+banjo_bolts.jpg

I know a place in Olathe (Tompkins Industries) that could make them but they will need the hoses to do so.

Here is their number if you want to call them 913-764-1711. Ask for Orville.

Keep it simple - don't worry about the bolt's thread/pitch. You already have the bolt so you just need to measure the center diameter of the banjo's hole and find a replacement hose with that same spec. I can measure the hoses I have from the D44 when I get home but you can probably get that figure faster than I can assuming you have the truck at home.

ok
3/8" banjo
I assume the female end is 10mm-10 ?
