Grinders will sneak up on you and jump you. They've been my only shop injury.. that I can think of.

Here's the carnage

Pictures of what led up to this in a minute

Wow wow - good stuff!

Damn, glad you're ok, coulda been a lot worse depending on where it hit.
Perfect reason to wear safety glasses.

x2!!!

Safety Glasses & Safety Cup!!!!

yeah-I was lucky this time. I wear plastic lens glasses and a face shield, but what if that chunk had headed toward my neck or gut?

What do you guys think? Leather apron?

not a bad idea, just make sure it's not baggy enough to get caught in the wheel, would be rather ironic if you wore a apron for safety and ended up getting strangled by the straps on it when the grinder got wrapped up in it ;)

This is the only guarantee of safety, lol.

Question: do you have a guard on the grinder? Cauz I've had a few shatter and the guard always saves my precious doll face.

That thing always gets in the way, but I do think I will put it back on ;)

Answer: For your birthday, get one of these. Much safer.

Whew, I'm glad your okay. I like those pictures, that looks very interesting.

There you go, a bomb suit. Pizza for Buster, he's watching 1000 Ways To Die?

Guards don't always work. I got lucky and didn't need stiches when a 4.5" grinding disc let go. I did get a scar from it since everytime I walked it would pull the scab off.

Jon,
Your going to bruise too..

This is mine from a grinder disc letting go. It hit hard enough to move my foot. A few inches over (I was kneeling on one leg) and I'd be singing suprano. The bruising worked its way down. Even my foot changed to neat colors. It took about 3 weeks for all the bruising to go away on me.

Well, I know what happened. The part shifted in the vice, and BOOM!

I can't find the part I was cutting anywhere in the neighborhood. I was attempting to cut a pre drilled chunk of square tube into a bracket tab.

Funny thing is my back hurts so bad all the time, this didn't even hurt. I felt the initial "thump" when it hit me but other than that not much to remark about.
The stitches tug when I try to bend my knee though.
