Jon And Sheri's Vitamin D Wagon

Just be careful, make sure whatever you're cutting/grinding on is cranked down hard in the vise, and DONT use harbor freight cutoff wheels.

It wasnt a Harbor Freight cutoff wheel was it?

Jon,
Your going to bruise too..

~Mark
um yeah

Funny thing is my back hurts so bad all the time, this didn't even hurt. I felt the initial "thump" when it hit me but other than that not much to remark about.
The stitches tug when I try to bend my knee though.
Ow, let me rephrase that-this $%^*ing hurts bad

It was a dewalt cut off wheel-rated to 13k rpms and my milwaulkee grinder is 10k

Today I didn't get much done.

I set up and went through the old singer machine-had to replace a plug and bobin winder tire-

It's amazing they still have parts for these. They don't make things like they used to

OK, I am slowly getting the hang of this welding stuff, so bear in mind I am a beginner when you make fun of the boogers

Here is how I decided to latch the swing out. I plan on drilling another hole in the pin to install a second latch pin in it

Got the tire support triangle thingy done

now for the good stuff.
We all know the tire carrier has to swing out so the rear hatch can be accessed.

But what about a guy like me who cannot lift that dang thing?

That is where my "Spare sanity" swing down comes in. I want it known I had the idea and this will document it, so if you go making millions off of it I want 15 percent off the top..

ok now enough legal mumbo jumbo

How about a 550 in lb coil spring shock, like you find on a bicycle?

IMG_0929.jpg

I just need to make the lengthened lower shock mount to create 1.25" of shock travel though the down swing of the arm.

IMG_0931.jpg

The lower hinge has a 3/4" hardened bushing and will be bolted only to hold the bushing in place. The top of the hinged arm will be locked in with the same type pin as the swing-out uses. The lower shock mount should also have a bracket and hole, so the pin can lock the arm in the down position.

Once the arm is down, my plan is to install the stock explorer tire winch to the inside of the tire arm "elbow" and run the cable through to the tire.

kinda in this order--the winch mount plate has yet to be made-

IMG_0932.jpg

This way the tire can be winched up to the lowered arm, then bolted into place. once secured on the mount plate, the lock pin can be removed, and, the 550 in lb spring should assist in getting the tire swung back up into the storage position.

Ouch Jon! Hope you heal up fast.

Jon your skills never cease to amaze me!! Could read your posts all day!

Question for you guys

Mounting a license plate is simple enough-but what about the lights for it? Should I worry about that?

I say you should add one. I got a warning for mine being out on my Mounty last year.

That is a cute coil over shock. Where's that come from again?

I haven't added a light to my plate... yet. I figure if I get pulled over, the license plate light will just be one of thirty eight infractions.

you sew, weld, powdercoat, and now u r a butcher!! Multitaskin skills!!

I have been pulled over for a light out on my rear license plate, it was an excuse to pull me over. I had donuts in the car.

They make a frame with a light. I had one on Mule my old 96 full size Bronco and I put another one on Jr. my 88 Bronco II. I'll see if I can find a link for you.

I never got pulled over for no light and my city and surrounding city cops are pretty strict with the little things.

I get pulled over just about every time I come up from Mexico. No plate light and the plate is no longer reflective.. Half the time its border patrol, the other half its highway patrol. Other than then, they leave us alone with no light on the plate, course this is AZ where you can legally carry a concealed gun in a bar without any kind of permit..
