Largest Tires on 17x 9 rims

First of all I do not care about the speedometer being off as I already running 265 70 15.

I visited Explorer Express and they have a Cobra R's and they advertise that it does not need a spacer! It's even available in 18 x 9 size with 285 50 18 tire!

So, TBomb, what are your specs on rims/tires on your X?

265 70 15? do you mean 16? cuz those arent stock size tires on a 15" wheel.

well, if i were you, i wouldnt just take EE's word for it. check out the numbers for yourself. www.4lo.com has a calculator there to convert tire sizes. though, you can run cobra r's without a spacer, but look at how small those tires are (not to mention, i did not run the calculations myself to double check what EE says.)

18x9 cobra r's DO exist, but they are NOT real cobra r's - they are REPLICAS. they look like cobra r's, but theyre not made by ford, theyre made by a number of other companies.

specs on my rims and tires are as follows:

tires: pirelli scorpion zeroes - 285 60 r17

rims: enkei rt6 in 17x8 - 0mm offset.

Yes that's a 15" rims. No, it's not stock.

So, basically if I get any rims with 17 x 8 with Zero Offset and slap a 285 60 17 tires on it then I would have no problem, meaning, no rubbing?

If yes, would a 295 60 17 fit on a 17 x 9 with zero offset fit? or am I pushing it?

well, you cant always say that, but generally speaking, yes; though, there are lots of other combinations you could go with to get that size tire to fit...maybe you dont need as much of an offset?..who knows?

theres not even a snowball's chance in hell of that coming close without a spacer, and i cant say for sure if it wont rub. i mean, youre only talking about 10mm more in tire width, but, you have to understand how manufacturing tolerances work. just because on my truck i get no rub, doesnt mean that you wont.

So you're saying your wheel and tire set up can not go any larger if you wanted to? What would your next upgrade be?

hate to tell ya, but ford no makey wheels. the "other companies" that make the replicas make the same ones for Ford. they just put them in a FRPP box, and do a little different design on the center cap.

well, yeah, i know "ford" doesnt make em, but theyre not 100% identical wheels - the real ones and the replicas. theres more to the difference than just the centercaps, though i cant remember what it is....something like how theyre made, or material, or slightly different shape or finish or something like that.

my wheel and tire setup could go larger if i wanted. for example, i could get rims with a negative offset...i could throw larger tires on my existing rims, but they might rub - im not sure. theres only so much you can do before you have to lift a vehicle. besides, i dont want anything bigger than what i have, so im not too concerned about it.

I know I'm diggin up an old thread, but I gotta say.....
tbomb, that wheel tire setup is the sh*t!!! :D
