That last picture, is that the same truck where it was previously wrecked and the guy put the camper on after? Internet assumes the weight of the camper bent the frame which isn't true.
no clue. i just saved it as a funny camper picture. i saw it in my downloads folder and thought it'd be a funny contrast to the dolphin and explorer-camper thing. let me look it up.

So what're the thoughts of either 4.0 sohc or 302/305 swapping the B2000? Thought about a 5.3l or 5.7l too, but unless I find a really good deal on one or a good junkyard one, the first two are cheaper and easier to find. I mean, they should still get pretty decent mileage for the size of the vehicle, right?

The 302 is the way to go.

I always thought a V8 conversion would be amazing. Light weight with lots of power. Can't beat that. :burnout:

The kind of truck you could steer with the gas pedal. Add some boost for additional tire smoke, bigger smiles. Need a case of depends in the cab.

Agreed!! Even a stock 5.7l or 5.3l should be plenty, not to mention upgrades!

Now that's great! lmao

302... skip the sohc for something bigger snd better

i think gas mileage will depend on how easy you are on the skinny pedal.. it'd get pretty easy to get carried away with all that power... remember...

The thought was to stick with something I'm familiar with, which the sohc does fall into, everything else besides a 350 or ls would be new territory for me lol

Oh that won't be an issue, least not after a lil' while, I'll enjoy that V8 for the first bit but then I'll learn to take it easy like I mostly do now lol

Okay, so, late ask. What do ya think the odds are of being able to load the mazda onto the trailer via my winch? So I park the trailer in front of it, place some tire chalks and disconnect the trailer, turn my truck around and winch it up slowly? Rather than trying to push this sucker up it, realistically I don't see any reason that shouldn't work, long as we're slow and careful about it, but anything I'm missing?

done it before. tow trucks do it. so as long as the trailer doesnt move it should be fine. can also mount winch onto trailer

Before I had a winch on my trailer we still were able To Load them up

Your plan will work, but there are a couple of easier ways to consider first

The issue with loading a truck into an empty trailer is weight, you have to be really careful here because with the truck loading onto the back of the trailer via ramps the trailer may want to rise up in. The front which is okay when it’s still connected to the ball, not good when it’s not. Now not all trailers will do this, usually you are fine with a standard dual
Axle 7500# 16’ car trailer, but something to think about

Another way to easily load it would be with a second car or truck, maybe the guy you are buying it from will help? You can simply hook up to the Mazda with a strap or chain and drive / tow it right up on the trailer with another vehicle driving right next to the trailer

A come along is another option, they are slow but man they will load just about anything onto a trailer

Roll it on. If you can get your trailer downhill enough many times you can just push roll steer and brake it right onto the trailer

The last option is of course the best, a winch mounted on the trailer, or if your winch is in a cradle get a double hitch for the back of the truck, lower hitch for trailer upper hitch for winch, long jumper cables can be used to power the winch

Many of us, instead of having 5 trucks with 5 winches will just have one big winch on a cradle and have receivers on the front and back of each truck

I have a harbor freight 5000# winch on my trailer mounted inside a tool
Box with battery and a solar panel. The 5000# utv winch will pull just about anything that rolls up onto the trailer… no need for a 10 or 12 thousand pound winch here

I’m on my third hf 5000# winch in about 15 years they last a good long time! Usually it is the control box that goes out, not the winch itself but since they are like $250-300
I just keep buying a whole new winch when they stop working. This one is mounted inside the tool box so it may just last forever (not exposed to weather)
I also cut off about 20’ of cable no need for 75’ of cable with a 18’ trailer. Cutting a bunch of the cable off keeps it from binding up when loading trucks and the cable wants to wrap up only on one side of the drum

I have loaded about 100 rangers and ranger based trucks, countless other makes and models too ;)

Well, being a uhaul trailer, I don't plan to try and mount my winch on a rental lol
But yeah, I figured that should work, appreciate it!
