No the ones I ordered are polished. Same series of wheel just not teflon. Do they make a kit to make wheels spinners??? Just thinkin out loud here.

You have got to be kidding. While you are throwing money away on ridiculous stuff- why not throw some my way?

Spinners are functional when you wheel in the weeds- it keeps them trimmed down. They also keep your momentum up in water crossings right? Come on....

Yes Kirby.......its a joke. :)

I'd probably think about if it was just a show truck but I plan on drivin the **** out of it.

Yes, the spinners are a joke, but you are serious about the bling 20s. Personally, I think they are as impractical as spinners. Seriously, run some 15" Black Rock crawlers- they are tough, they are cheap. If they bend, you can pound them out, or buy another for 30 bucks. I really don't see any function for any rim/tire combo bigger than a 15" off road other than the fact that they make a truck look like a confused street truck. The big rims are functional for on road because you get better side wall rigidity and better handling- so I can see them for a street truck. But isn't side wall flex good off road? I mean, I want as much as I can get that is why we air down.

If I had that kind of money to blow I would buy an atlas 4.0, a professionally built cage or a nice set of 15" trail ready bead locks. I think the ones on ricks and Mudwhores rig are as cool looking as it gets, plus they serve a purpose.

If you are that concerned about your truck looking bling you could get your truck painted with some metal chip purple paint- then your fenders would match (personally I think they look cool white).

Just my humble opinion. I am looking forward to seeing your portal conversion.

first off, 15 inch rims wont fit on 3/4 or 1 ton running gear cause of the brakes.

second, sidwall squirm is bad in most instances off road, therefore, a bigger rim with a shorter tire will help on sidehills, turning, sidewall squirm, etc.

i know his is just for looks, but there is a good part to bigger rims off road

wes

p.s 53 inch michelins only mount on 20s, so 20's arent THAT bad

Yeah the smallest rim I can run on these axles is MAYBE a 16" but a 16.5" fits nicely.

Now you missed a very important part of my very first post. This is my daily driver. This thing will see very little hardcore stuff. And if I do plan on runnin anything serious then yeah I'll run 17" rims with some 38s or 37s under it. My portaled 2nd gen. will be my trail rig. It'd just be nice to have a pavement rig and a trail rig. :)

I guess I didn't catch the fact you are running a 3/4 ton Dana 44. I would look into putting 1/2 ton outers on there just so I could run 15s. I know the calipers are not the dual piston on the 1/2 tons (atleast on a ford, not too familiar with Heep Dana 44s).

I guess I could understand 20s for a road rig, but why go solid then? Maybe just so it won't break when you put on those monster fancy meats and wear them out drivin all over on the pavement?

I will trade my sidewall squirm for extra sidewall flex in the rocks any day. I guess offroad means too many things- by "off road" I meant low speed stuff not prerunner type stuff or high speed mud.

I'll be the first to let ya know how 20s are in the rocks, I'm sure. But right now this Explorer is being built for street first......mud second......sand third....rocks last.

Why go solid??? No more problems!!!! No more bearing crap every month from runnin little 36" tires. No more odd tire wear. No more blowin up axle shafts in the sand. Theres lots of reasons guy.

F**K the critics and put what ever you want on there :D I run bling too ;) When I bought my wheels they were going for about 215.00 each so I say to each his own. Oh and by the way I would run 17's if I were buying 37 or smaller bead locks. Have fun Derrick, that driveway looks like it sucks to push a floor jack around on....LOL :D

any updates?

Very little update. :(

Most everything is on back-order.

Chevy knuckles are here finally.
Leaf springs should be here friday.(Hopefully)
Tires which I switched to Iroks instead of STSs should be here sometime soon.
Wheel adapters for the 8.8 are here.

Still waiting for alot of stuff to show up. I ordered everything while it was on back-order. Stupid me!!!! Should have shopped around first.

Why not comprimise and go with an 18" rim then you can run those Nitto mud grapplers :D. I wish they made those in smaller wheel sizes for us non-bling guys  you'll like the IROK's though, just got a set myself and I like them. Look forward to the buildup.

Dang Derrick

Glad to see you switched to the Iroks :D Stll gunna run a 39.5" right? Thats what i wanan get for my Jeep....... Just need to save some mone, and find some one to buy my 35"s

Keep up the good work man  :D

Yeah I still plan on runnin atleast a 39.5" if not bigger.

Yep the leaf springs showed up yesterday. They've got quit the arch to them. Guess I'll find out when its done how high this thing will sit.

Wow, that's a spring. I take full responsibility for not having your brackets done yet. I have to take my chop saw to work on Monday to rebuild it again. Then they should be done in a day or two.

Hey is there anymore progess? My friend is thinking of doing the same swap into his exlorer. What are you doing for steering? What kind of kuckles are you running on your axle? Are you mounting the leaf hangers directly to the frame? Where did you get your wheel adapters for the 8.8
Sorry about all the noob questions, not a ford guy yet
Thanks
GRANT

Not really progress but Kent(NOTAJP) is finally done with my brackets. Still ain't got them but there done finally. As for your ?s...... I'm doing a hard mount on the front of the leafs and shackle in the rear. I'm using 76 Chevy knuckles. Any year Chevy will work as long as there flat top knuckles. Steering will be completely custom. I'll just buy the tubing the mount it myself. Not really tough at all. I found them here on the site for sale. I didn't really look around before I found them here for sale. Hit me up if you got more ?s for me.

39'S on 20's? You're crazy man! I like you , but you're crazy!!! (from old school)

Now why did you go with 20's? for the bling bling factor? Huge brakes? You wont be able to air down as much or get as much of a contact patch with 20's, thats only what 9.5" of tire around the rim? It will be friggin cool though I give you that. Hope you got spinners :) I always have been waiting to see a wheeler with spinners, roll it over on that rock, but damn the wheels keep spinning!

I love my MTR's personally, 35x12.50. For daily I just got some Dick Cepek FC-II 33x12.50, I REALLY like these tires, good prive too, not sure if they make 39's :) haha

Good luck man, looking good :) Oh and you're gonna wanna take a few bucks and go get yourself some more jack stands, you're gonna need some tall ones now baby!!
hahahaha

I'm not really sure on why I choose 20s. I saw a Super Duty runnin around town here with 42s on 20s and liked the look of them. And when I decided to make this explorer my street queen and thought why not do some bling bling with it. Not much just enough to set it apart. :)

Just remember........I still have portals in my pocket!!!!!! :D
