Lifts and max tire and wheel sizes for explorers
95-2001

3 inch body lift ? 33x12.50x15 on 15x8 rim/ may require fender trimming

3 inch body lift and 1-2 inch suspension lift ? 33x12.50x15 on 15x8 rim/ may require fender trimming
Should we edit this? Because I don't think anyone is gonna fit 33x12.5s on just a 3" BL without fender HACKING.

I have a 91 and back when i had a 3"bl i could fit 33x12-50's, they rubbed a little on the radius arms. not bad though. i was running stock rims. when i went with wider rims i had to go down to 31's on a ten" rim. Also in the rear with 33's and stock rims your going to rub on the inner fender well when flexing. Later, chico

Has anyone put on 31x12.5?
If you have can you post a pic?
Don't know of anyone that makes them.

And they would be a horrible size for a stock rim.

BFG makes them in KOs and KMs and a few other major brands.

No they don't.

And nor does any other maker on tirerack. Not saying that no one makes them, but I have never seen them.

Maybe 31x10.5x15 but there is no 31x12.5 available by BFG or Goodyear. There are 31x12.5x15 Super Swampers available (Super Swamper Radial SSR) There is a 325x60x16 which measure out to be 31x12.5.

i am just getting started on my '99 XLS. what is the best body lift hight: 2" or 3"? what tires and wheels are suggested?

i have a 1997 mercury mountaineer with a 2 1/2 inch torsion twist and 3 inch shackles..can i fit 31x10.5x15 mounted on 15x7 wheels?

99.999% yes

great write-up Joe, i always use this for a quick reference when i do my pondering :D

cant find

Where can i find a 4" in suspension lift for a 95 Explorer 4x4, and the only 3" in body lifts i can find are for 91-94

Welcome to the site, for the body lift you need performance acessories bl kit number 853, its for a ranger but the x has the same frame. As far a suspension lift you only have a few choices, trailmaster & one other cant think of it ;)

superlift, and im pretty sure the consensus is that the superlift is higher quality

is the superlift made for a 95 or will i have to make mods

i think its for later 2nd gen models, but the suspensions are identical. I think the only difference is the rear torsion bar mounting bracket (someone correct me if i'm wrong).
search is your friend ;)

Need help about torsion twist

Hello guys

First of all, this website is really helpfull, there is tons of information available here. Keep it up guys..:)

I have a 2001 4 door explorer which i bought about 3 months ago. I got interested in off roading now and did torsion twist tonight. I found that I had type D torsion bar. I was able to get it up only 1 3/8 inch total with total of 7 turns. Then i went for ride and did not hear any kind of noise, hopefully it is ok. Now, the driver side adjustment bolt is all the way in and passenger side bolt still has about 3-4 threads out, even though I did the same number of turns. The passenger side seems to sit 3/16 higher than the driver side. There was about 1/8 difference originally.

Questions for you....

Will 3/16 difference cause any problem?

Will I be able to get 32 tires underneath with this height?

Is there anything else that I can do the get more height out of the torsion twist?

I guess that I can still lift the rear up by 1.5" by adding the leaf spring, am i right?

Please repond, I need you help :)

Welcome to the site, that much diff won't make a diff, on mine the pass & driver side torsion bolts are at diff heights as well, one option to get more lift is to get longer torsion bolts and replace the stock ones, what is the total height you have from ground to top of wheel well? 32's shouldnt be a prob even with what you have gotten from the tt, what do you mean be adding the leaf spring? add a leafs, after market leafs? etc etc

I have 33 7/8" total height

Thanks very much for replying.

I measured it today and I have 33 7/8 on driver side and 34 on passenger side. :) I am not sure what the minimum that I need for 32" tires. Let me know if this height is enough or not.

I was talking about adding after market leaf springs for the rear to level it up. I think that I am going to be ok there. If you have anything else that you want to suggest, let me know.

Thanks
