I just pulled the PCV valve on my motor and it came out of the lower intake with no resistance at all. It's basically just sitting in the hole. Is that right or should there be a tighter seal?

Yep, mine was loose like that after being in there for 130k miles. That'll happen to rubber. I replaced the grommet, PCV, and hoses.

I should clarify. The PCV valve fits tight in the grommet. But the grommet just slides in and out of the lower intake manifold very easily. Not sure if that makes a difference.

Anyone have a part# for the grommet for a '99 5.0L?

My PCV valve is the same way. It fits tightly into the grommet, but I can pull the grommet out of the manifold with ease. It's not so loose that it falls out on its own, so I'm not too concerned.

I've driven about 200 miles or so since I changed the PCV valve, and in that time I've checked on it 30 times or more to make sure it hasn't worked itself loose ;) So far, so good.

post #2 in the link I referenced above shows it as item 84
