Maf sensor and vacuum intake

I recently put on a spectre air filter with a maf sensor adapter
How important is it that i have the vacuum line connected it just sits and pulls air from under the hood if its not

It should be connected, as the air going in it should be "metered" also.

The Maf sensor will "See" the additional air flow, for lack of better explanation.
 






i did the same thing, and i capped it off, cause where/what can you attach it to?
 






I got the spectre vaccum intake adapter 11 bucks
