Max Tire Size.

Hi everyone, I ma new here.

I have a 2002 explorer Xlt 2wd w/ bullit rims from a 2005 mustang. What's the biggest size tires I can place in these 17" rims without any rubbing??? I heard I can use 255 60 17 as the max tire size. Is this true?

hey thanks for your help.

245/65/17 is the stock size for Explorers with 17" rims. Or roughly 29.5x 9.6
The size you say (255/60/17) will work fine, but will be 29 x 10, or 1/2 inch shorter, will leave a larger gap.

Some other options is 275/60/17 which is roughly a 30x11... personally I would go with that choice for a sportier look since they are mustang wheels.

or you could go taller than stock for a more rugged look
such as 255/70/17 or roughly 31x10.5 (what's on mine)
or 265/70/17 or roughly 31.5x10.5 (others here use these with no rubbing issues)

If I go with the 275 60 17 on my explorer w/ stock suspension, do I require any wheel spacers?
