If you didn't already know (i've whined about it forever) my X started messing up pretty bad so i took it into the shop. They tested the computer and told me that I needed a new one (computer).

For 3 weeks after that it didn't try to run after I turned it off anymore. Just the other day it started again. I checked it out and it looked like what used to be hooked up to the power distribution box was no longer hooked up. I think my EEC test was hooked up there. (That's what the problem was I think.) Did this just unhook or did they forget to put it back on or what.

Me and my dad couldn't figure out how to hook it back in so I took a look at some other kids' explorers at school that are the same year model. THey all had an EEC test cover on theirs so I couldn't see underneath it and I didn't want to rip it out. Well, mine used to have one there and it doesn't anymore.

I'm so mad. I have my lift sitting in my room ready to be put on but I'm having to wait now in case I have to buy a new computer.
Luckily, my dad can get me a new one for $100 but what if that's not the problem.

You are sure that there is no way for you to hook it back up? I would ask someone on here to take a Digital Photo of theirs and companre it to yours! Hopefully that will show you how it should be hooked up. Then if you see that your can't be hooked up, get the correct parts that allow it to be hooked up. Hopefully this all costs less then a New Computer would cost.

OK well if anybody can find the time, could you remove your EEC test cover (supposed to be connected to the power distribution box in the back) and take a picture of what you see. I'm almost positive that there is supposed to be a cable hooked up to it or else why would there be a cover to something that's not there? This could save me hundreds.

Also, a guy from school said it could be my ignition modulator. Any truth to that?

On all of the EEC-IV vehicles I've owned ('86 & '94 Ranger, '93 Sable), the EEC-IV diagnostics connector was the same setup. The cover is only a piece of plastic designed to keep the EEC-IV connector clean when it is not being used for diagnostics. Nothing else plugs into the cover or to the end of the EEC-IV connector (except for a scanner). No cable goes to the cover.

i don't mean to the actual cover itself but underneath. I think I see what you are saying though. So there is nothing underneath that cover? Or that group of wires is but mine is no longer there. Mine is just hanging out under the hood. Hmmm this sucks.

It's hard for me to picture what you are saying. To me it looks like you are saying that the EEC-IV test connector cover doesn't have anything plugged into it. If that is what you are saying, then the EEC-IV connector should plug into the empty cover. The EEC-IV connector is the same connector that you would plug an OBD-I scanner into to read the codes. Nothing else plugs into the cover though. Can you take a picture of what you are trying to describe?

Nevermind. My dad talked to a mechanic (different one) today and he said the same thing that you guys are saying. Nothing hooks in.
He said that he thinks that it might be my Run Relay or my Fuel Pressure Something. I'm taking it to him on Monday. Thanks for your help.
