i'm out, the wife wants to go to maui in sept, so i must make her happy. looks like i'll have to wait till next year.

What ever happened to mightyrob2000 that started this thread?

HELLO?

This is a fairly lame response for our Moab event so far, so I'll come out of the closet and see what interest there really is :)

This week I found out that I have an excellent chance of making this trip. The problem is that I will not know if I truly can make it until literally the very last minute - the weekend before the run :(

But as it stands today I'd say I have at least an 80% chance of making it this year :bounce: - enough of a chance that I will go ahead and register and also make reservations at the Canyonlands Campground.

Mike, not many are suggesting runs they want to run yet, so I'll throw out the options and see what replies it generates. Do you want me to add the post I made earlier on this thread about the trails onto the official Moab 2003 Itinerary thread of yours to describe the trails that I know as a reference reading on that thread?

On big runs like this I like to meet everyone and fellowship; at this point in my Explorer wheeling the comraderie is more important to me than the run; I've done most of Moab already. However I do want to run Cliffhanger sometime this year though, I've been trying to get to that trail for two years now. It was rated 4 until this year but evidently erosion upped the ante because it is now rated a 4+ trail, so it may be a toughie.

If a group of modifieds that have not been to Moab yet join this year and want to go to Top of the World, I'll volunteer to trailboss a harder path via Onion Creek/Thompson Canyon/Rose Garden Hilll/Top of the World to get them there, but they will have to be a true modified with 33's and a rear locker to do it that way.
Besides that, I'll enjoy time at the Moab Brewery :chug: and Moab Diner :D I am not extreme enough to tackle trails like Pritchett Canyon or Rusty Nail but could ride along one day and photo the action for everyone.

Rick suggested a backwards Golden Spike run this year ("Ekips Nedlog" run) and also showed an interest in Moab Rim to me at one point (if we hired Dan Mick to lead us). The possibilities are endless and none of what I just listed includes all of the dozens of stock run possibilities.

Let's get this show on the road Dead Link Removed

garrett, do u think it would be a waste of my trip if i show up with my locked rear 2wd on 33s? are there anyone that runs on the less jaw-breaking trails?

I'm still in, i have taken that week off from work and me and a friend are going to be pulling my red truck up on a trailer, i've just got to put a few more small goodies on like the skid plate, but other than that my truck is ready!!!!!!!! just let me know what i need to do.:D

Well I'm up for some fun and if Gerald is willing to trailboss and show some of us MOAB newbies around then I'm all for it.

If I **** myself, its on your hands Gerald!!

I am going to have to either replace my A4LD with a C5 or get the A4LD worked on. I just picked up a D20 t-case so I think I will go C5 with a C4 tailshaft adn mount the D20.

You need to talk to Alec about that. He has done it twice in his 2wd with 33s and a locker. He REALLY pushed it on some obstacles though... Namely when he ran Top of the World backwards :D

There have always been several less-than-modified Explorers at the Moab run. AspenX will be, and I don't know if mrboyle will be interested in the tougher trails either. I believe in another place I told you that can do fine on dozens of lesser trails because of the extreme traction in Moab, but that it would be a strain on your power and transmission since you do not have a lowrange. I think you'll do fine so come on out. Two years ago we went on Trails 1 & 2 in Arches National Park (that's the ones with dino tracks on the trail) and I don't believe any of the stock or superstock vehicles signed up so far this year have gone on that one; that would be a good choice and you should have little trouble on it or other similar trails. But like I've said, make sure your tranny and engine are in good shape to help compensate for your lack of power and lowrange.

Namely when he ran Top of the World backwards

I hope you are saying he did the trail backwards and not that he was in reverse driving backwards. If that is what you have to do when you only have 2 wheel drive it would suck. :D :D hehe

Last time I was at Moab I was only 2wd and we ran Fins and Things (rated a 3 or 3+ i think) and Klondike Bluffs (the one Gerald was talking about with the Dino prints) without any problems (granted I still had low range). Everyone was very amazed at how much I could do. My dad asked why I was even bothering with the SAS. :D

I definatley want to run Fins & Things again. I'd also like to do Posion Spider since we didn't get to last year. Though I liked Top of the World, I did it twice last year, so I'd really like to try something new.

Gerald, If you'd like to add the list to the Itinerary I'm all for it.

Mike, I added the post, plus redrafted some of it to read better and inserted some photos for effect for those who would rather just look at photos :)

I'm a little confused, since there has been so much excitement in years before for this run, and this year seems like little interest.

If your Explorer is a 4x4, Moab is the trip of your life.

Where is everybody this year?

Madmike, did you fill out the registration form on the itinerary thread? :)

Jefe also failed to mention that we ran Top of The World in 2wd (at midnight!!). Very disturbing to park up on that ledge, and not be able to see the bottom, even with Jefe's 2 "billion" candlepower spotlight.

Gerrald,
I am very interested in running the harder path to TOTW, Also I would love to get to the bottom of TOPW and look up, ever been on that path?

Lets do some hard stuff, I am sick of reading about it :)

Thanks for the sticker BYW! it's awesome.........

I am down for whatever :)

Jamie

So where is everyone staying. I know where Rick is staying but I want to make reservations before the campsites fill up (and I dont have an RV). Or is nobody going???

You parked on that ledge in the dark??? :o

Randall, is Moab a curse for you or what? :( I had really hoped to see you have a good run there finally this year.

Positive Vibes, check the Moab 2003 Itinerary thread to keep up with who is staying where, mrboyle should be keeping that info on it there. I will also be at Canyonlands Campground.

Okay Jamie, I'll volunteer for a Thompson Canyon/Rose Garden Hill/Top of the World run one day. I still haven't seen it from the bottom, but since you can see Fisher Towers from up top I assume the Fisher Towers trail would give you a bottom view, but that's just a guess.

No one is suggesting specifics yet and there is still nothing on the schedule, so here goes, I'll start off my BigDawg run preferences that I want to run:

FRIDAY MORNING:
Cliffhanger - by golly I WILL finally run this trail this time!
Cliffhanger will last maybe four hours and dumps off in the area of both Kane Creek and Moab Rim, either one of which we could do that afternoon. I've settled down now and think I can gird myself up again for another run at Moab Rim if anyone else wants to give it a shot with me, so....
FRIDAY AFTERNOON:
Moab Rim; will anyone else go? If not, then Kane Creek instead.

SATURDAY:
I'm totally open to ideas. I'd like to hear what Rick wants to do; I want to run with him at least one of the days. Rick? Still want to do Golden Spike backwards or what???????

SUNDAY:
Thompson Canyon/Rose Garden Hill/Top of the World

Okay people, I've started the ball rolling for at least partial ideas on a schedule. But it's up to you: I don't really care what I do as long as I get to run with you guys, except that I REALLY want to put Cliffhanger under my belt this time around. Let's get some more discussion going on the trails to run!

What ever happened to mightyrob2000 that started this thread?

I totalled his Heep at the AZ run earlier this year.:(
But he will be riding with me.

I'm not near a computer alot lately because of work so I'm going to try and catch up on the last few weeks here. Then check in again in a couple more.

I'll be there even if I'm the only one.:D

As for trails - I'd like to do Elephant hill again. (Just fun), Fins ' n ' things, Poison spyder mesa, Tough way to Top of the World, Hell's Revenge, and ???.........

Hopefully I'll have my locker in by then and I can go for some of these - if not I'll do the others.
