Anyone planning to come early or stay longer?

Yeah, if I'm gonna travel that far, I'll stick around and extra day or two.

ill put in for the time off for work hope to make it in my 3rd gen wally world may have other ideas though

The girl and I are seriously considering it,I think I can actually make it happen next year. So a question,I have run Elephant Hill in my Ex and that's about my limit cuz it is basically stock although it might get 31's by then. I don't want to drive 1800 miles for nothing so how severe of terrain are we going to try?

I don't mind minor damage as rust is just starting to rear it's ugly head and I'm tired of bodywork.:D

(and I have a tow vehicle to boot)

There should be enough of a variety of vehicles to join a group you'll do fine with. Elephant Hill is about the level of one of my favorite trails (Steelbender) that I want to run again out there.

Check out an old post I made at the end of this thread that is a sort of review of several of the Moab trails. It will give you an idea of what you can do.

There will be plenty of fun to be had if you'll come :)

No picture does the "Cliffhanger" justice. Rick stated without hesitation that it is the most intimidating obstacle he has ever encountered. You must tackle it both ways - going down on the way out, and back up on the return trip. It is now an 8 -10 ft slanted verticle ledge with huge boulders, perched just 3 feet from the edge of a 500ft sheer dropoff. Upon first seeing it, our group had a very serious discussion as to whether we should turn back instead of risking that obstacle. But we continued on and lived to tell the tale

Locked front and rear and on 35" tires, I still hung thoroughly up on the two major obstacles. Those with me were similarly equipped but with their higher suspension lifts, had much more undercarriage clearance than me and had little trouble on the trail. This one is for true BigDawgs only; do not even think of trying it unless you have a fully modified BigDawg Explorer and the kahunas to face that obstacle.
Really good description. The obstacle really isnt that hard -ive done far worse- but the fact that it's tippy and the price of a mistake is certain death makes it the most terrifying experience ive ever had behind the wheel.

Kindof spooky feeling your rig tip towards a cliff, all while looking down at the clouds below you. LOL

One of the most difficult sections is just getting down onto the trial (and back out).

We ran it a couple years ago with 4" -6" lifted rigs on 33's. Jeep Gary and Paul were 'Spot On' with their spotting. Kevin ran it again when more rigs showed up ( james t ;)) later in the week.

No doubt! But no where near as scary. Im accustomed to having massive trees that will catch you after you go over a couple of times. Not falling off Mt. Everest and tagging an eagle on the way down! :D

And BTW, i wont have a translator with me this time. The GF will probably go but her accent is as bad or worse than mine. I checked, but Rosetta Stone doesnt have a swamp people to Western English version on the market yet.

I just bought a new (to me) '94 X 4-door yesturday so...

DUDE! I still have some tube doors for that. They will need a little shortening, but they were skillfully made by a real craftsman...

Musta sold the jeep huh?

ROFLMFAO!!!!! I've been teaching special education long enough to translate for you. lol

Thanks so much char, you got the job!

Questionable if I'm joining ya'll or not. I'll probably still be going down that weekend, but I'll probably be using the Wrangler instead (buying one next month). Still would be interested in joining on the trail runs if thats alright.

All are welcome!

This is a maybe post. I would like to hit up Moab, but my rig needs some upgrades as the current setup leaves something to be desired in the way of gearing, suspension and armor. I know I could probably do it now with what I have, but why take a chance since I have to drive this thing there and back. (My dodge tow rig may not be around for much longer, besides no trailer if I did use it)

Fingers crossed that a job will be forth coming with a very generous stipend. :D Ex needs new toys!

You would be surprised what you can probably do with what you have. I had mine at a mug bog and I was back in the woods with guys who brought their toys. One jeep guy even said I was nuts. Had no issues, even had to tow an old scout. Had to hit some stuff with speed to avoid getting stuck though. That is where the skid plates come in handy though:thumbsup: A locker and you would be golden. You don't want to get into anything to hairy, red is to nice to mess up.

Good luck with the job and getting red running right! Wish I could make a trip like this but its too far:(
