Completed Project My 1993 Explorer Sport has been retired

Today I took my 1993 Explorer Sport (4wd) to a salvage yard. I bought this vehicle brand new and it has served me for almost 31 years. The rust was so bad underneath it would have required extensive frame work. I did not want to sell it to a private seller and have somebody get hurt and so this was the best way I felt. It had over 351,000 miles on it. I would like to express my deepest thanks to all those who helped me with the multitude of repairs over the years. I really apprreciate the help from all on this forum.

Glad to hear it served you well. Sucks though that it had to be retired- 351k is a lot!!!!!!

Wow, that was definitely a long life. I'm glad you were able to enjoy your explorer for so long.

My '93 that I bought new is currently not registered because it needs emissions testing and I just don't drive it anymore except the emissions place each year. I got sick of that routine. I will be giving it some love soon though to get her back on the road. Thankfull we don't have the rust to deal with here, but my rig has definitely had a long hard life.

Glad it served you so well. Mine is a year newer and not quite to 200K (and I'm probably the 4th or 5th owner), so if I get another 150K out of it I'll be delighted. Had to replace the inner and outer rockers on both sides due to rust, but otherwise it looks fine underneath. Sloppy steering is the only issue that'll need to be handled anytime soon.

Good job old truck and well done!!

My 88 b2 has been parked the a pillar has rusted so badly I cannot bolt on door hinges anymore and the doors sag when you open them, I got tired of lifting and slamming so she is parked. The frame also has several rips and tears in it from being flexed and wheeled so hard. She was my daily driver for seems like my entire adult life. Like Rick, I will be resurrecting my bii she will get a full frame off restoration asap
Right now she sits at about 350k miles

Any plans for another Ford explorer? I cannot imagine not having the bronco around but have really been enjoying driving a 03’sport trac

John, It is tough to let go... I am also an original owner of a '93 Explorer. I just put my 2nd 5.0L in my '93, the truck has some rust in normal body panels. But the frame is solid. Best of luck with your new vehicle, be well...
