Accident in my '92 Eddie

Alright so the other day I go to pick up my friend from his job and as we are going though the parking lot a 77-year-old lady was going to try and cut though some empty parking spaces and slams into the side of my X. To make the situation even better she was wearing those big black sunglasses and not her prescription glasses. She was also actually using a magnifying glass to read my license and call on her cell. So my Explorer now has $3600 or more worth of damage and is going to be totaled by the insurance company. My Eddie is still drivable but both passenger doors are not aligned and there is a gap where water can come in.

That sucks...If it were me I'd buy it back and fix it with the $$$ settlement.

Alright pics are now up.

If its her ins. co. paying they dont get your X. They just owe you for the damages up to the book value. You can fix it or not. Its entirely up to you.

3600 is a lot of money for mods.... and some junk yard doors.

or just take off the doors and have a playtoy

I just had an event like that. I was driving my pretty new (to me) 97 xlt and this guy comes out of a parking lot not stopping and cuts off a school bus, and the bus slams on its brakes and i slam on mine and skid across gravel into the bus. And then the guy who cut off the bus swings around and t-bones me. Was gonna get 2500 from him for door but my insurance company decided to total my car for 7k. :-D i paid 4900 for it tho which is good because i got an aweosme deal. So i bought the car back from Ins for 1300 and i got all the damage repaired for 700 bucks by going to a body shop that i am good friends with. New hood and junkyard door worked perfect. Then i went and got it all detailed and painted nice black and it looks slick. So if i were you id see what you can get on the value, and trust me argue the value they give you till you get somethign respectable. Hoepfully you can end up like me and ending up really well off with lots of improvements.

One bad thing is i have to wait a few weeks for my grill guard to be in stock again.

I was actually in the process of cleaning up my X up. My brother, cousin and I just spent an entire weekend compounding, polishing and waxing the exterior and cleaned the carpet and floor to just about being brand new. I also sandblasted and painted the wiper arms, antenna cover and the window switches covers. In the near future she was going to get newer seat out of a 2000 explorer and a small lift with some bfg all terrains (I believe) off a friends Explorer.

well now your gettin the money for the seats, a BIG lift and BIG tires :D and then with the money you have left over you can fix the doors and make it looks pretty again

Sadly I don't think she will be fixed because the book value is not enough to cover the damages but we are keeping and will use it in the winter. If all works out for me with this I plan to buy new (to me) vehicle something like a Honda hatchback with stickers and a big exhaust (just kidding). The vehicle I am currently looking at is a '99 red sport with the 4.0 SOHC, 101,x.. and just about fully loaded for about $4500. What do you guys think of this offer, my mechanic is going to give it a run though and if all is good I will pick her up after I get the insurance check.

even $2000 would be more than enough for 2 junkyard doors. Looks like that's all she really needs, and maybe a little work with the rocker panels.

The door jamb is actually pushed in a little so there is a nice sized gap above the rear passenger door that is now cover with duct tape to prevent rain from messing anything else up.

Took the X to the insurance company’s body shop this mourning and they are totaling it, the good news is that their driver is 100% liable for the accident. I am now going to be contacted by a total loss examiner by Friday to get a figure from him and accept or decline it. So I will keep you guys updated.

If you have any receipts of any work done it can help get you some more $$$. It only seams the insurance companies are the only ones to make out..

What kind of work do you mean, regular maintenance done or anything after market? The X just had the brakes done like 2-3 weeks ago and just this last week my Crankshaft position sensor had to be replace because it started to act up. I just spoke to the total loss examiner and she seem to be nice and sympathetic about my situation, had a good conversation and she is going to get back to me in a day or so about value.

Any $$ you spent on your X should be documented and brought to her attention. It can only help gain you some leverage when working with the adjuster.
