My latest project: 1970 Dodge Dart 512 C.I. Bracket Racer

Some of you may remember that I used to have a 1972 Dodge Dart which I drag raced.

Well, I got the itch to get back into racing:burnout: Our new house is only 3 miles from the Speedworld racetrack and I can faintly hear them running the cars from our house. It was just too much for me to bare;) I haven't been doing much in the way of local fourwheeling, so I thought drag racing would give me something to do on the weekends.

A couple weeks ago I bought a 1970 Dodge Dart off of E-bay. The car was located in New Jersey, a mere 2500 miles from home:eek: I decided this was the right car for me mainly because I really needed to get out of the house on my own for a couple weeks and this was just the excuse I needed;)

The car is going to be stripped and repainted. It will get new quarter panels, at least one rocker, one floorpan, new door hinges, fiberglass hood, bumpers, and most likely trunk lid as well.

The new color will most likely be orange, but it just may end up being red, like my old one. Plans for it include a 650HP, 512 CI, big block Mopar and an automatic transmission. I'm just not sure if it will be from BB or SB or whether or not it will even be a Mopar:eek: I plan on ditching the torsion bar front suspension for an aftermarket K member which gives you rack and pinion steering, upgraded brakes, and the choice of coilover shocks or airbag suspension.

The rear end in the car right now is a trussed Mopar 8 3/4", with a three link suspension and coilovers.

wanna trade? LOL
we traded some carpet for two 2001 Honda 250cc 4 stroke quads during a blizzard last winter... I have them both in the garage now, completely gone through and one is running... the other needs carb work will only run at full choke...... anyways today is the day I drive one of those suckers. I ATV alot, but I have no idea how to shift this sucker, it has no clutch!! hahaha so helmet and pads it is for the test drive... so if you wanna let me try the dart and you can try this 250cc quad, Ill be right over!!!

Seriously Rick this thing is so sharp.. I cant wait to see you drive it, I can only guess at what that feels like someday I wanna build an entire car or truck like this, so glad you are almost done!!

fingers crossed

Yeah that first scratch or rock chip is going to be hard to take, but I think the worry factor will drop a little after you make a full pass at the track. It was built to race after all.

It's already happened. I caught a tool on the edge of the drivers door and took out a little chip. Ahh well, what can ya do:dunno: I'll do a touch up and move on.

Torsion bars don't have any tension on them, yet the car is still front high. Not much, but it will have a bit of a rake to it when I get the motor and tranny in it.

:notworthy

dayum

even the slotted rotors match the wheels

now that is sexy

The drum brakes in my first Dart were scary. They wouldn't work when soaking wet, and didn't stop well when dry. Definitely old school technology.

Looks sharp Rick. Do you feel a little homesick with those Strange axles in there? Made in Evanston.

I do. I had a Strange spool in my first Dart. Went right to Strange Engineering's shop to pick it up:D

Strange is about a mile from where I grew up. A friend of mine worked there and another old friend married a Stange boy.

I went to school in Evanston for a couple years. Roycemore High School, located just off of Sheridan rd.

You mean two isn't enough?? :D

I doubt I'll be dragging the Dart that far north. I plan on visiting some So. Cal. strips though. If I'm going as far as Infineon I might as well bring the Explorer:exporange

OOooooh, getting a bigger trailer?

:D

The guy who lost his killer Dart to an engine fire is back. His revamped ride is even more wicked than before:eek: This time he's not keeping it street legal. Race only.
