96' Ford Explorer XLT 4x4
ugh today i noticed while driving my speedometer shakes/drops/bounces. I just put the 3 inch body lift on and moved up to 31" tires. It did this before I did the mods but not as violently. My explorer is a 96' 4x4 limited 4.0 v6. Any ideas what this could be causing this?

edit: ok whoa after posting this and leaving work i put on my cruise control and the engine was accelerating then slowing down accelerating then slowing down accelerating then slowing down, its like it was trying to adjust to what speed the speedometer was showing.. But since the speedometer kept changing and bouncing around the cruise control kept adjusting....thoughts ?suggestions?

im desperate here guys...would appreciate any help...

VSS.

Not sure if the '96 is on the tailshaft of the trans or if they moved it to the differential by then.

Find it, replace it, fixed.

It was on the tailshaft of the 4R70W in the '96 I had.

the guy who put my lift on said something about a cable that is probably just stretched to much...sound like a possibilty at all? which cable is he talkn about? whats in the tailshaft?

IF the speedometer was mechanical, yes, I'd say look for a stretched cable.
But your 96 has an electronic speedo, mine is plugged into the transfer case.

I meant to say the transfer case, sorry 'bout that! The sensor is an electronic pickup that senses a magnet passing under it sending pulses to a computer that converts this to the speed information that gets sent to the speedometer.
