I've had my truck for about 9 months now and it has never really wanted to kick down a gear if I needed to pass someone or go up a hill. It would, but I would have to just about put my foot through the floor. Recently I can't get it to do it at all. The truck was a little low on fluid recently, but I topped it off and no change whatsoever. What are you guys' thoughts on the matter?

Maybe a stretched kick down cable. I had the same thing happen with my 93 so I'm not sure if they are the same set up or not but on the top of the accelerator pedal there are 2 cables, one is to the throttle body and the one on the left is the kick down cable, there is a zip tie trick you can do to take up the slack if it is stretched. Here's a video.

No I haven't done either yet. I plan on doing the fluid and filter soon. Are the bands fairly easy to adjust? I've never attempted that before.

Okay guys, sorry for bei g so slow to get back to this... I did have some slack in the throttle cable, so I did the "zip tie mod" down at the pedal. I was under the hood anf I got messing with the throttle body. For some reason I have virtually no movement of the throttle body butterfly. I can only move it about 1/4" tops. Why in the heck would the throttle body not move? Nothing looks out of the ordinary with it. Wtf?

Could be the throttle position sensor is broken ( or installed wrong) and not allowing full swing, or, the bushings in the throttle body have worn causing the butterfly to hit the throttle opening. You might remove the sensor to see what is going on there-

Make sure floor mats are not in the way

Well I'm stupid! Come to find out I put the gasket for the throttle body on wrong and the little ribs were keeping it from opening. Cleaned up the t body and flipped the gasket and all is good! Thanks everyone!
