I need a step by step on replacing my rear hatch door for my 1993 Explorer. Mine got hit by a car backing up while it was open. Won't close properly. Going to the junkyard to find another. Any scholars out there?

It's a very straight forward procedure of just removing bolts, wiring and struts, but I have to add that when my hatch was hit while it was open, the area on the body where the hinges attach got tweaked. I was never able to get the door to align perfectly again. There was always a big gap at the top. :(

91-97 will fit (same hatch up to 97)

Unbolt the old one bolt on the new
Some wiring for wiper and a tube for the sprayer
You will want to take the lock cylinder from your own hatch and transfer it to the new
I would keep the old glass lock mechanism, struts and hinges as spare parts if possible

Your vehicles body paint code can be found on the drivers door sticker, makes it easier to match colors

If your glass is still good, when you go to the yard for another door, remove the glass and leave it or you will be charged separately for it. At least if it's LKQ.. Avoid the one in Wilmington if you can.
