I have a 1999 Mountaineer with AWD, I think If I could find a manule to download that would be cool.. AT least then I would be smart enough to call the parts BY name:scratch:
But at the time my question is:
The front drive shaft has a viberation to to it. I have found it to be in the "disc looking thing" that is in front of the tranfercase. What is this and how do I rebuild It?:o

Hi, welcome to the site--

I'm afraid you will have to have the cv joint rebuilt at a driveline shop, or, buy a new drive shaft. It is a fairly common issue--

I cannot remember the proper term to that coupling (double cardigan?), but a reman axle is about $250 and about 1/2 hour to change (unless you have real PITA bolts), then figure an hour. That way you have both new joints and one session under the truck.

Good luck!

LOL!! Mr. Rodgers had a double-cardigan; your Explorer may have a Double-Cardan joint on teh front driveshaft. However, I thought they did away with it for the 98 model year... Do you have a picture (or can you get one) of the offending part? That makes it real easy to identify.

Ya I can get a pic. we are talking about the same part. I just was not sure what it is called. SO it looks like I should check the yards for a good one? does any one have a link to a download able shop manule? That would be a place to start?
