First of all, Happy New Year to everyone,
Im trying to get a new exhaust system for my 96 x, i've got the 5.0L V8, im thinking on installing dual Flowmaster 40's with dual outlets, im trying to get sound close to that of a mustang V8 please give me some advice as far as the size of the pipes and the size of both ends of the mufflers,
the guy thats selling and install all of this for me said it would run around 320 to 360 dollars mounted and ready to go

Should i go with Flowmasters 40's or should i look at another series? please give a rookie some advice i know nothing about Exhaust systems!!

i really like ur X it sounds nice!

do what i did and take off the 2 rear cats ( after the 02sensors) and run 2.5" tubing all the way back, its loud and mustang like, a bigger cam will help the rumble alot but ours is pretty close. oh yeah we used 2 40series, with no h pipe or x pipe. so its true dual. and after watching justins video our sounds louder but thats probibly not the case in real life but it might be close not having the 2 cats

alright im gonna go with dual 40's "one muffler per side" and im still debating whether i should have the outlets together on the right side or if i should have one on each side
i think i might do em together as it would make things easier, i will post some pictures!

Just a hint
I went to a muffler shop and had the whole thing done for 275.00
Flowmaster dual in-out 2.5" pipes and chrome tips installed, tubing bent around spare tire

mine sounds like jtsmiths. but it will probibly be a bit quiter after i run it out the back

Just 275? that sounds like a great deal, i need to talk 2 the guy doing the install again!

Yup
275.00 at Tim's Muffler in Chanute KS
That included everything, even the modification ( lengthening) of my EGR tube
You should see their billboard sign
It actually say's "NO MUFF TOO TUFF"

Did you buy the pipes and muffler first, then go to the shop and the labor only cost you 275? Or did you buy them from the shop and all of it together was only 275?

My exhaust cost $68...including the tip:) I have a y-pipe where my muffler was, then 3" pipe run back to the tip.

hummmm, i might be better of buying the mufflers on ebay and just having the guy install it.... im also thinking of cutting 2 of the cats to have better flow i need to get under my truck and take some pics so i can illustrate my words...

Your cats unbolt.
The primary cat converters are needed for emissions and to make the engine run.
The secondary cats, well you should check your state emissions laws before removing them, but you dont need to cut anything, they unbolt.

I have a duel inlet single 3" outlet under my BII with the 5.0L. It sounds GREAT and for a 4x4 this is a good setup, it retains low end torque more then a true duals setup would.

on the 96 the easiest way to do the exhuas is to leave off the 2 rear cats( you rhave 4 of them, the 2 rear ones after after the 02s so they should trigger the CEL, and then you have 2 flanges to work from and it makes it very easy, mine took about an hour total in a gravle driveway but i dont have any tail pipes yet.

If the price seems high ( to me it isn't much off what I paid)I would search for a different installer, and get everything from them.
If you do have a problem, 1 vendor to deal with
If you buy them from ebay and have them installed, you probably will pay for removal, and shipping to warranty if problem arrises
I am using a single 50 series dual in dual out. That is a bit cheaper than 2 mufflers right off

no, the easiest and best way is to have a proffesional muffler shop do it. It will turn out right, and there are some tricky bends for a true dual
