New Explorer "Crucial" to Ford

All my explorers have lift gates. Everything that I carry in my 91 X is heavy. No parcels, luggage or ect. Spare tires, tools, recovery equipment, and my big a$$ is all it every carries. It was my first work truck, and everything was heavy, concrete or steel.

Mr. Webster defines a Truck n : a wheeled vehicle (as a strong heavy automobile) designed for carring heavy articles or hauling a trailer.

The Explorer was never designed for either.

Ask uhaul. :D

dictionary.com:

station wagon: an automobile with one or more rows of folding or removable seats behind the driver and no luggage compartment but an area behind the seats into which suitcases, parcels, etc., can be loaded through a tailgate.

Sounds kinda like an explorer......

bingo

According to fun hump day photos a prius fits this category so should we all run out and get priuses? Or would that be priusi?

My 91 X is still kickin it, riding on 33s, trucking along.

I grew up driving trucks from pick ups to tractor trailers. A Gen 1 X is a truck.

If you were to go to a local mud bogg and say that surbans, blazers, broncos and ramchargers are stationwagons, there is a pretty good chance you would leave bloody (not a threat). If you look at the mechanical components of my 91 X it is basically the same as a F150 pf the same year.

As stated previously body on frame and transfer case = truck.
Unibody and no transfer case = car.

I stopped by one Ford dealership yesterday, they said they might have a new Explorer to look at next week.

Hate to tell you this but, they do make a 2wd truck! NO transfer case. F250- 7.3 powerstroke, tanny and rwd. So what would it make them? A Yugo?

You don't carry luggage or parcels in your Explorer?

Well, in the 2 months I've owned this Explorer, I haven't hauled any luggage, parcels, heavy articles or towed.

Mine must be a car then.

Who ya gonna believe? The governement or Orielly's? :D

I Believe O'Reilly's Since Explorers (1st and 2nd Gens at least) and other Similar SUV's are classified by the Government as trucks hence the lack of the 5MPH bumpers on them. Since they are required on Pass Cars and not on trucks.:salute:

When I tow with my Explorer, the ride actually gets better. Sounds like a truck to me. :D

Everybody knows the government is never wrong, so my X must be a truck!

Moderator time here folks. This is going into all threads on the '11 Explorer.

I know there are those of you out there that do not like the new Explorer. I'm fine with that and you are entitled to your opinion. HOWEVER I am tired of people bashing the '11 without ever driving one, sitting in one, or in some cases seeing one. If you have experience with one and don't like a feature or how it drives or how it failed you somehow, please post up about it. I've already found stuff I don't like and posted up about it, and I'm sure that there are other features/items that I will find that I don't like either.

If you don't like the fact that Ford called this an Explorer and you feel that the name is tarnished, don't whine here, it won't do any good. You'll just piss people off. Sent a note to Ford and complain to them. If enough people don't like the re-design and tell Ford, maybe they will take that into consideration.

If anyone persists in continued bashing or sniping (as in any other forum on the site), you will become eligible for a vacation from the site of an undetermined length.

Please do not respond to this post saying F-You or Thank You...That's not why it's here. Just read it and continue on.

Thank You.

On Edit..a healthy debate is always welcome on here. Please do not take it as different opinions are not allowed. It's the bashing that needs to stop.

Mine is a Station Wagon!

If you really want to get down to 4 wheeling When Ford got rid of the BRONCO that got away from off roading

That would be so sick if they came out with a new Bronco. Honestly, I feel like the best thing Ford could do is discontinue the Flex (I like it, but it doesn't sell well enough and doesn't have the same space as a minivan) and Escape, make a new minivan and a new Bronco that's an off roader.

Could go all "Villager" and just get the Quest again from Nissan- it looks like a Flex morphed into a minivan... :)
