new t-case option....

I'm sure it will be out on the Auto Show circuit. Isn't the Detroit show coming up (early January)? If I'm home during the Chicago show, I'll go see if I can get pictures.

Go look under a Trailblazer. If the H3 is based off of it, it will have the same front end. Same front end = same side front driveshaft. :)

IFS = punkin is in the middle is it not?

Its gotta be offset somewere (id think) or the driveshaft would have to run through the oil pan. That inline 6 is pretty tall, and i know the Trailblazer has some kind of funky crap were the suspension runs through the bottom of the motor. Never looked at one in person- but someone had pics of the engine on the interweb before. It looks like a nightmare.

Not to bring the thread down, but have you given any thought as to how much this TC is gonna cost? The truck they are going to be in isnt even on the market yet so you would have to buy one new. Never priced a factory new transfer case but it might not be much cheaper than an Atlas. Just something to think about. :)

Nope offset to driverside for engine clearance. Also it would be hard to have a transfercase with the rear output, and the front output and the engine input all in the same line- or at least it would be hard to do and keep the TC from being very tall :D .
IFS Chevy trucks since the 88 s have been driverside drops, I dont remember what the old solid axle trucks were.

It will probably be pricey to get your hands on one though

im thinking waiting till some dumbass totals one and ill be all over it like flys on stink.

Or, if BW utilizes any cost-effective interchangeability in their manufacturing processes of their different tcases, maybe just the gears could be used? In other words, break open our tcases and swap in some 4.03 gears to replace our 2.48 ones? Has anyone thought of that?

If it bolts up and everything works why? there isnt any point, your still going to have to buy the entire case unless BW decides to get crazy and sell just the gears. The only reason i could see for doing that would be to swap them into a 1354 which wouldnt be a half bad choice.

Well, I live about one hour from the BW factory and thought about just showing up and asking the question and looking at the gears and asking if I could buy a few extras off the assembly line, you never know.....

I can't imagine that used H3 t-cases are going to be affordable in, at least, the next couple of years. There is going to have to be A LOT of H3s rolled, wrecked, etc before you will see one under $1K.

slap some firestones on them and we could speed that process up! or heck even just the badging off of an explorer.

why dont you stop by the BW plant and get us some specs.

Damn thats rough!!

Yeah I think the atlas would cost about the same as this H3 junk, and the atlas is more Heavy duty, better t-case,better lowrange, and its an atlas
:D

Any updates on this BW with the 4.03:1 that will be an option for the new H3s... Might go real nice behind my Tom's Doubler...

GJarrett, I say go ask for details, pricing, gears if you can. Never hurts to ask!

I dont think my truck has enough brakes to stop a 4.03:1 low range.

more information I too have wondered about this swap but no one seems to know anything about these secret t-cases keep us posted

Any more info on the case and gears??

id look into a dana 300...cast iron -bulletproof and 4.10:1 kit and a twinstick.. they are popular in the j**p cj's and can be found anywhere.
they have a symetrical bolt pattern and can be rotated 360*
